So it's my second time hatching chick, first time was fine, my silkie was brooding and I had nine out of ten of my chicks hatch but this time two of my other birds were brooding, one would keep the eggs warm but she kept pecking them open and killed three, I gave the survivors to my other broody hen but after six hatched she left them and they went stone cold.

Since then i moved them back to my first hen to warm them, thats when she killed the third egg. But after going cold for so long I've had one chick peck a tiny hole! I grabbed all the eggs, put them in a box with twothot water bottles (i dont own an incubator and itsi better than being killed or frozed ) and with a little help my seventh chick is hatching! My other 10 eggs arent showing any signs of life and they're all overdue by a couple of days, should I open them slightly to check for life or do I leave it?
Thanks!

Normally if they're two days past due they won't hatch. In my experience all of the healthy ones hatch within 24 hours of each other.

If left in the egg too long after the due date, leg and spinal issues occur (if still alive that is).

Should I see if I can check for any life? The one hatching now has been at it for well over 24 hours so maybe the cold weakened them?

They're likely to die at this point anyway, I'll check one after watching a few videos, thank you
I hope everything turns out ok, if it all comes to worse, you can always buy day old chicks off the internet if you still want to have some chicks to look after.

Yes, you can assist. Get a container of very warm water and dip a paper towel in it to moisten the membrane while I work on chipping the egg shell away.

DO NOT let any water get near the beak/nostrils. If it starts bleeding, it could be that the yolk sak is not absorbed, and the chick has problems.

I've got nine who are a couple months old and six that hatched last week and are healthy, I just feel like I could have done more for these guys
