I agree and also have one Spitz..... Well technically I now have 2 - as of 3 min ago.

We borrowed a Spitz roo from a friend. I set her eggs during & after the visit. The eggs are due on Wed, but look what I just found in my incubator:

Our hen was orig named "Spitzie" & we were going to sell her to the people who own the roo. I thought her crest was not as sharp as it should be & figured I'd just buy more hatching eggs the following spring. However, DS claimed she was HIS chicken and renamed her "Poof Poof" Now I'm glad we kept her. She has personality plus.

As far as the eggs, 2 of the 1st 3 developed - one now hatched.
I set another 7 eggs & 5 of those are developing.

1st 2 spitzes from the 1st hatch are doing great. (My broody hen already had some 3 week olds & then adopted them. She's a very happy mama & feels that more chicks = better.)

The 2nd hatch is due tomorrow morning, but 4 of the 5 spitz eggs already hatched. The last egg is pipped. Perhaps because they're smaller, they hatch a little sooner than my giant orps.

Here's what I saw this morning. All 3 hatched at the same time

So far all 6 look exactly like a silver spangled spitzes should. (It's a good thing b/c I was a little concerned I'd be getting some spitz x orps.) Hoping #7 is just as pretty as its siblings. I happen to have another broody, so these early birds have already been slipped under her.

Fun project birds!

The silver blue will work perfectly in the silver spangled pen.. but I am not familiar with the genetics for the citron. How will the cotton work breeding wise? Or did you get a pair or trio?

I got 4 of the citrons they are supposed to work well with the gold spangled. Im going to test it out and see how it goes!

My youngest spitzes are 4.5 weeks old. No gender signs yet but I know from past experience that it doesn't mean much at this age. The only guess I have is that A has a more wild crest which may indicate female. All my past chicks with a nice tight shaped crest, turn out to be male. I was unable to get pics of the older chick today but it also shows no signs of male-ness.
