Chicken has open wound, yellow skin!!! *graphic picture* please help

Any possibility of a dog attack? Almost looks like a bite to me.
But a hawk would be the most logical guess. You (or someone) must have interrupted or she was just plain lucky to get away, because there would usually be a lot more damage from a hawk than one puncture wound. Check around her body within a few inches of the big wound for smaller wounds too. Hawks have a thumb-like talon too, and can really grip something when they grab it.

Best of luck fixing her up! :fl

Unfortunately only bad news here. We kept calling vets and finally found one that treats birds. Once we got there the Vet said her pelvis was basically shattered. She was barely breathing and in a ton of pain. I think ruptured air sacs too her breathing was struggling. We talked about plans to save her but the odds were so low we put her down to prevent her pain any more. Please pray for my sweet girl I love her so much I love all the chickens we have but Betsy was special. She was always the one to hang out with me follow me around sit on my lap. The Vet doesn’t think it was the dogs though so that’s good. Thank you all everyone here is always so kind and helpful I truly appreciate it.

That looks like a older wound to me. The yellow is puss. Chickens puss is a bizarre substance. It’s nothing like puss your used to dealing with. If she were mine I’d pluck the feathers around the wound. I KNOW you don’t want to hurt her but the funny thing is they barely notice especially when there is the yellow/puss. And it does help with keeping the wound clean. Get it clean and Keep it clean. Personally I like betadine, easy to find and I just like the way it drys almost slick-like.
The puss will become hard like stiff cheese. Keep an eye on the edges of the wound. If you see any black or rotten (necrotizing tissue) I like to use a hooked nosed syringe to flush it out. And trim it. But again to me it looks like a older wound.
Chickens are pretty amazing they are tuff.
Keep her hydrated. Encourage her to eat.
The good news I guess it is already started to heal. Post pictures after you got her good and clean. Best wishes

We have turkey vultures all over our farm every day. They do not bother chickens. They only eat dead animal remains. We also have hawks, and they will kill chickens. I have lost a couple to hawk attacks on the ground.
Turkey vultures we got them. Weird fact they urinate on the roadkills (favorite food) it smells so retched that nothing else will eat it.
