Sponsored Post Chicken Math Strikes Again!

i have 3 chicks that just lay around and would open their eyes even when i pick them up. should i be doing anything special for them? and do i call ideal with my 1 DOA or only if didnt get any extras?

I would only tell them of any losses if it means I end up with less than what I paid for, jmo...the ones that are looking poorly probably won't make it, but you can give them vitamins & electrolytes (like Sav-a-chick) in an eye dropper, and make sure they are warm enough and won't get trampled on. You may want to put them in a separate brooder if you can. If you don't have Sav-a-chick you can use karo syrup dissolved in water or something similar. In my experience even when you do this they still probably won't make it, but I always try. This seems to be something about shipping stress that is hard to mitigate once they start going downhill...sorry...

That's ok

this is the first time I've had this issue with shipping. I have an order for next week if I call they can add the "lost" chicks to that order right?

Yes, that's exactly what they did for me. I have two sets of the D'Uccle assortment bopping around my brooders, lol. The bantams seem to really get hit hard with shipping stress, but by some miracle my second group got here in 24 hrs, and I only lost one.

I have been nursing one little chick since they arrived yesterday morning. I have a kitten nursing set and a long nipple. She will open her beak and chirp and will drink the water if it's in front of her. But she's not eating or drinking on her own, so Im not hopeful.
I watered down the grogel to give to her and today bought a nutrition supplement which also gets added to water.
She is the only one that is having trouble out of my order. Sure wish she would eat something. :(

For all of you who ordered from Ideal, how quickly did you get your delivery date confirmed? I ordered 5 days ago, got an automated confirmation mail but haven't heard anything else yet... not sure if that's normal or if I should email to make sure they got my order. I am excited and anxious! lol

I ordered from ideal on Monday. On Tuesday I got my shipping confirmation for the 6th. So if you figure 2 days from then, I should receive them on the 8th. When I ordered my selection, I made sure to pay attention the the availability dates. I understand they won't ship out your order until all of your selected chicks are ready to ship together. When I called them just prior to placing my order, they told me that shipping may be held up depending on he cold front that was expected to pass this week. I must say, the person I spoke with was very informative, knowledgable and friendly. This is my first time ordering from a distant location. I hope my chicks arrive safe and healthy.
