Sponsored Post Chicken Math Strikes Again!

Hm... all of the breeds I ordered were listed as "available" for the date I selected, but now they're all "sold out" for that date.

One of the breeds I ordered says sold out til May, blah! I have no idea if I'm guaranteed to get them or not since I never heard anything back... time to send an email, but I'll be worrying about this all weekend! lol

Bellatrixed, I would call them. Perhaps when you checked after your order, your chicks were already accounted for your shipment and the sold out status was after yours were accounted for. If they are in fact sold out, you may want to choose a different available breed so your entire order doesn't get held up. But like I stated, just give them a call. I'm sure once you speak to them, you'll be satisfied. Good luck.

Just a little update--I got an email back this morning (which is totally awesome since I thought I'd have to wait til Monday!) and my 2/27 ship date for all the breeds I ordered is confirmed!

So excited! lol I had already resigned myself to probably not getting some of the breeds I picked out. Great to see everything I've been reading about Ideal's customer service is true. :) Since every breed I ordered is sold out for 2/27 looks like I got in just under the wire, phew!

So, looks like I'm expecting:
2 - Silver Laced Wyandotte pullet
2 - Ameraucana pullet
2 - Black Australorp pullet
2 - Buff Orpington pullet
2 - Silver Spangled Spitzhauben pullet
2 - White Faced Black Spanish pullet
2 - Salmon Faverolle pullet
2 - Barred Plymouth Rock pullet
2 - White Only White Leghorn pullet
10 - Assorted d'Uccle Bantam St Run

Chicken math struck hard. A month back I was convinced I was buying 6 chickens locally...

I called on Monday and had no issues with customer service, they credited my card for the losses.I also received mine on a Friday.

Shipping stress is weird with these little guys, I lost 8 the first time I ordered bantams, it was very frustrating, one minute they would all be doing fine acting normally, eating and bopping around, then the next minute one would be fading. Then as soon as one was fading nothing I did would save them. I couldn't understand how a chick that arrived seeming ok could then go downhill even though I was doing everything right including vitamins & electrolytes, proper temp, enough space, clean bedding, etc. The only thing I could attribute it to was the shipping stress. It's just weird how it'l hit them a day or two later. It's hard, but I know what you are going through, so sorry

The good news is, whichever ones you have at day 4 or 5 are probably out of the woods

I noticed that the bantam chicks are susceptible to piling. I had a few DOAs. Not Ideal's fault. I think it's my fault for getting antsy and ordering too early in the season and not waiting for it to get warmer.

Did any of you who ordered have your chicks vaccinated? And if you did, what vaccs did you get?

You're right about the shipping. There are so many variables. All you need is one insnesitive ramp agent who leaves the box of chicks sitting on the ramp for an hour or two before loading and there will be losses.
