Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

I try to tell my mom that, but she doesn't believe it. I guess she's not a true chicken lover... If she was, she'd love the remodel the girls did on our yard

Ba ha ha! I can think of several times I didn't care for what my chickens got into (my strawberries and hostas!), but I did notice (and you can remind your parents of this...) that wherever my chickens have been...the grass grows thicker and lusher! You can't beat free range fertilizer!

HELP! My chicken addiction is worsening!

I spent several days converting an old TV Console (solid Mahogany - circa 1950's) into an incubator.

Now my craze is hatching eggs on ebay! I have bid and got outbid on several auctions!

If anyone on here has any crosses or "test eggs" - I can pay for shipping and a small fee for the eggs, but I am on a somewhat limited budget, so I cannot afford eggs at $20+ not including shipping. No disrespect to anyone, I am not questioning their value, I simply cannot afford that high!

I am very interested in Ameraucanas, Araucanas, E.E. crosses, especially with barred rocks or any other cuckoo/ barred chicken. I am in love with the Silkie-feathered Ameraucanas, but I don't have that kind of money yet!

I also like Black Australorps and Polish crosses.

I love BYC, there are days when this website is my only social interaction...

My girls aren't laying yet. They've gone on strike. I went from getting 2 dozen eggs a day to just one egg a day! If that! Slackers.

Hi, I'm magicpigeon

The 1st chicken I owned was a mutt, and I didn't actually want her at the start, but her owner was giving them away and at the last minute I took her

She died a few months later (neighbour's cat

) but by then, he had bought silkies, and gave me one

Soon she got lonely and to my parent's despair, I borrowed a rooster. This inevitably lead to a multitude of baby chicks. Then, I decided white was boring, and bought ( at a $50 cost..yikes!) 2 colored silkies. Around the same time, a second clutch of eggs was laid, and 2 babies were found under my very motherly pigeon...

And then...

I decided bantam and no feathers and most importantly, no clucking, was boring and bought a sussex and australorp. I thought I got 2 hens, but now I know I've got a rooster. And I think I know what's going to happen next. Does anyone know what sussex/australorp crosses look like...?

Don't forget my countless pigeons, 5 quails and numerous parrots...I think maybe I posted in the wrong thread...I'm addicted to ALL birds

PM me if you'd like to try some hatching eggs. If you pay the shipping (guessing around $12/dozen) I'm happy to send them. I have a pen with various marans (3 roosters are golden cuckoo marans, hens various including BCM, blue marans, and some buff cochin). A black Ameraucana rooster (Paul Smith line) was sneaky and ended up in the pen today somehow, so you might get him as a daddy also, ending up with an olive egger. I also have various free range eggs, all fertile, but lots of various breeds. My head rooster is an Australorp, but there are 50+ other roosters doing their jobs too....

TinyBirds...you have me beat...by far! I thought I was addicted because I have around 30 roos! They are all friendly and I just can't get rid of them.

I'm so addicted that I just rehomed a pile of chickens and am already thinking of what I can hatch next. Large fowl, definitely. Everyone around here keeps asking me for easter eggers so I guess that's what I must hatch

. or Jersey Giants. Not sure why but I'd really like to have a few of those.

Have to find homes for seven bantam roos first - that's my goal before I can hatch anything else!

Mugs, do you need any more roos?

They are still young and cute!

No! No more roos! I am getting rid of all of my JG's. You are more than welcome to them. I have one FANTASTIC rooster and 3 hens. I'm not kidding...he is a love! Gentle on the ladies and very protective...lets me hold him, likes to be pet. Featherz...just meet me halfway and they are yours!

They are all less than a year old. He's a big one. I'll throw in a Silver Ameraucana roo for your Easter Egger project...he's straight from John Blehm. I too need to make room....well for more!
