Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

We can't get our feed store to carry Flock Raiser, but I have heard it is really good stuff. And if your ducks eat like mine, you will need like 20 bags.

I need to take more chick picks before they get scraggly, so I'll post some later.. plus I have to get a pic of my grumpy hen with her new saddle on. It's cute, a chicken pattern. She's a real biatch, so I am surprised she's Puff Daddy's favorite. Maybe she just is resistant to his charms and thus he stomps her more.

My addiction, uh hmmm, logical thinking, started with older chicks in the $.50 bin. I thought maybe since they were older, they might stand a chance between 3 toddlers and my lack of knowledge in raising chicks. Well my oldest had to have a bantam, so we got two. Both sickly bantams died within two days, and I panicked, so I ordered 25 BR pullets from the hatchery. Well, my oldest was so terribly sad that she didn't have a chick to hold anymore, so we decided to stop at another Rural King and check to see if they had any the same. They didn't, but she really liked the RIR's, so we got 4, and my middle daughter loved the little yellow Buff Orps, so we got two of those, and my youngest just wanted to eat all of them, so I got 10 SLW's because that's what I really wanted to order in the first place. Well now, the present coop is no longer large enough, and how could I possibly sell my toddlers pet chickens, so we moved up the old corn crib for renovations. Now we have room for 80 chickens, and I will only have about 47 +/- depending on how the shipped chicks do, and how many extras might be in with them. But since I would hate to have cold chickens come winter, I thought I better go to my friends that I gave the original chickens to, because he just hatched about 40 this past week, and doesn't have the room for all of them. But he doesn't have the ones that I would really like to get, so now I'm shopping for some different color orps, because I think they are just adorable. But it's not an addiction really, it's logistics. I mean since the neighbors all want eggs and we eat about 8-10 a day, a dozen chickens wouldn't really supply us with enough to sell and keep for us. So I was thinking I should double that, you know in case some only lay a couple eggs a week. And since there could be roosters, that might make it closer to 20, and since I have 4 neighbors that want a dozen per week, well I don't know, I need a chicken mathematician to figure that out....surely there are some in here
