I think I already am. 59 chicks and 4 call ducklings hatched since July something. 32 plus the ducklings are currently in brooders.

But I did just adopt out 2 pullets today. That was the first time I have EVER divested myself of any chickens. I'm feeling kinda sad about it, but am glad they went to a good BYC home. And the member wants some more in the Spring as they grow out.

This is helpful. I do want to give the "extras" to BYCers locally. It's just that the reality of saying good-bye to my babies was tough.

I did manage to sell 26 out of my last batch (12 NH pullets, 7 BA pullets, 1 BA cockerel and 6 bantams that may have been roos) all of them before they were a month old and got $5 each, which paid for my last order.

I keep my favs (and a few extras) and sell the rest.

A bit nervous about selling any (potential) hatchlings, though. Not just having sat and watched the incubator for 21 days, but also a 50% rooster ration may be a TINY problem in the rehoming department - I better sell some while they are cute!

Goodnight, BYC world & fellow addicts - I'M OFF TO HOLLYWOOD! (in my dreams...)

Thank you! You know you have gone overboard when you justify the number of eggs with "well, they won't all hatch"! I counted this morning and was surprised to find that there were 62 in there and more on the way - Sultans, Araucanas, and FBCM.

I want more, MORE, MORE!

Do you know, out of all my chicken friends (on BYC and "reality"

), not one of them has an Araucana. Not one. You will be the first that I know of! I heard a ways back that the rumpless gene is also a deadly gene...I hope that doesn't play out in your hatch. Crossing digits for you.

I want more, too. My friend just told me about a breeder who's Delawares are laying purplish-pink eggs. I'm going to "need" some of those, too!

I love the Aracaunas, but I have heard that I should expect very poor hatch rates from them. I have heard that both the rumpless and the tufting genes are lethal. I have no expectations from my hatches, so any chicks will be a wonderful bonus! :)

Well, I may have found some eggs for Saturday so I can join in the new year's hatch. Not too many, so I hope I get at least two chicks. Would hate to have a lonely cold chickie!!

I haven't got a single bird yet but am planning our coop. My wife says 6 birds will be fine. I am building a big enough coop/run for 50. I can feel them coming! She can hardly wait to get started. Just looking at the pics here of all the beautiful birds is inspiring. I think we will have it bad. The worst thing is we have a 2 story barn with almost nothing in it and our daughter is grown and on her own. There is nothing to stop this from getting completely out of hand this spring!!!

I've decided to get mixed breed pullets- maybe EE's, but I'd like some who lay an egg every day... I'm hoping "my" barred rock just hatched a pullet! Then I will be able to adopt her
