Chicken (Poultry) Addiction Anonymous *Chat Thread*

About two months ago my neighbor told me he wanted me to hatch him out 20 Buff Orpingtons and 10 Green Egg Layers, so I set 73 eggs, ehem....I had to put 43 Extra...just in case!!

Anyway, I had a temp spike on Saturday to 110 for about 3-4 hours and that made the chicks hatch 3-4 days early! So anyway 30 chicks had hatched out by Tuesday, but I was keeping 8 of them so that's 22. Anyways he came over and picked them up today about 15 minutes ago, and I also talked him into buying 3 bantam hens!

Last month I gave him 4 of my Lavender guineas and a pair of bantam chickens, he told me he loves the little banty hen b/c she lays an egg a day..so that is why I was able to talk him into taking them. I also tryed to get him to take a "few" broodies and all their chicks..but that didn't work!!

Then this morning I turned off the counter-top incubators in my room ( like an idiot ) and I come back in my room about 2-3 hours later and I hear peeping...a BO egg had zipped...needless to say I feel awful...but the little guys seems to be just fine so I may end up w/ 43 MORE chicks!!

The Australorps are wonderful! And incredible layers!!! We have 3 hens...we get about 15-18 eggs a week from them. Crazy.

Someone on CL sent my an email about my ad and it said "Want another breed, check out this ad. I just listed them tonight"
I looked at the link and it was for a flock of Coronation and Light Sussex!

So I emailed back and said I wanted the whole flock of Coronation Sussex and a Quad of Light Sussex. I'll be picking them up Friday. Just had to spill the beans, I couldn't hold it any longer. I had planned on not posting until I had them so you could BEG me for pictures but...

Sunday, I'm also getting some Cuckoo Maran hens, and some Golden and Silver Laced Wyandotte hens and 1 Buff Orpington hen.

I decided to cancel my order from Cackle. I doubt I'll even have room for the Sussex! Oh, well. Today I'm going to have to find a place for the Sussex to live!

The Coronation and Splits/Light Sussex I have are darling. Sweet girls and BIG! You will love them. They are easy on the eyes and I've never seen them pick on any other bird in my flock. Super sweet!

I now have 3 sets of auction eggs coming my way: Cayuga (duck), Speckled Sussex, B/B/S Jersey Giant.

I could not help myself. I couldn't. Honest.

Now I "just" need Buckeyes. And maybe some Golden Sebrights. Oh, and LF or bantam Barnevelders (I have one bantam pullet). That's all. I'll be "done," then. Honest.

I'm very excited, I can't wait to pic them up in the morning. I spent my whole afternoon fixing an old stock trailer we had on hand into a temperary coop. I'm thinking about letting the Buff Orpingtons back in with the mixed flock for a few months to give them a break, and put a new breed in there, like my Olive Egger roo and Easter Egger hen!
