Hubby might really notice those though.... I will need a really good explanation....

My name is kaybats and I am chick addicted. Haven't read all your stories yet, but believe me I will. Good to know there are others like me out there

Here's my story:

All I wanted was fresh eggs. That's it. That's all. Farmer across the street brought some over one day and I was hooked. Can't even bear the thought of a "store bought" even passing my lips.

So it was decided. I waited patiently for chick days in March at Orscheln. Got 6 RIR chicks. Two turned out to be roos and that's when I found BYC. It seems 4 girls and 2 boys is not a good idea....and I have found this out first hand just recently.

Sadly, I lost one of my girls to a predator

I cried for days. Now it's THREE to 2! Obviously, need more girls. Did NOT want to sell or (gasp!) Eat one of the boys. I was pretty bummed out at the thought of having to wait til next March or maybe til my hens started laying to get more chicks! (A first class newbie, huh?)

I found out there is a hatchery only about 30 miles away!!

Got me some buff orpingtons! And just for good measure, 2 one day old ducklings! I couldn't resist...they were just too cute. As the week wore on, I thought, OK, got the reds, now some golden orps...I REALLY want some white ones too! Needless to say, I was back at the hatchery that Friday to get my white rocks. And again, just for good measure, two more ducklings!

I have the hatchery's catalog and I not ashamed to admit that my sharpie has gone dry putting stars next to all the ones on my wishlist! I'm still not sure how chicken math works, but I think I might have a pretty good equation coming on.

By the way, I am currently studying "Chickenese". I'm pretty confident I will be fluent by the time the BO's and WR's move into the coop!

Wait until you decide you want an incubator so you can hatch your own.

My 3rd hatch is hatching now, and I am already looking for the next kind of chicks I want to hatch!!!

Believe me kraftyladies, I am already making plans for hatching some of my own

Now that would really be starting from "scratch", ya think?

I think I like animals more than most people. You can never have too many animals I don't think. But tell that to my hubby!!!

Oh, if you couldn't tell by my signature Krafty, you know I love animals, lol. So many animals on my property of course it is a farm....

Yesterday morning one of my Serama eggs had pipped, it was due to hatch today but never did. I got to looking at it and it looked like the sac was getting crusty and stuck to the chick, so I decided to help it out. It seems just fine, so
fl.gif
hopefully it'll be just fine.

Our Border Collie, Milo, was found under the pickup truck chewing on one of my mixed juvenile chicks!

The poor thing was still alive, and ate some food when I offered it to him so I think he will be okay now.

He is actually Mrs. Fluffy Puffy's son! I hatched out two of her eggs a few months ago and I hatched out male and female. Cutest little critters.

Off to wrap some Serama eggs to ship off in the morning.
