There have been other post that have warned people to be cautious of
chickens around your face. Tonight I had a close call that I am still shaken
up by.
This is not the first time so let me give a brief history:
1-When our current laying flock were 10 weeks one poked my wife in
the eye. Her eye healed but was irritated for several days.
2-A 13 week old bird got our dog in the eye. He was OK. Some may
recall my "Chicken attacks Pit Bull post".
3-My leghorn has nipped me in the lip. One time she got me so hard
in bled and was fat for a few days.
Tonight, while feeding my babies in the barn on the old couch out there,
my extremely friend Leghorn jumped up on the back of the couch. The
birds were in a feeding frenzy devouring oatmeal, one of their favorites.
I turned my head to the left and the leghorn, seeing the gleam in my eye,
struck my eye hard. Her lover beak raked my lower eye lid and her upper
beak ripped my contact lens right off my eye. It hurt bad and I had that
"Oh ****, this may be bad" feeling. My contact lens probably saved my
eye from a surface scratch or worse. The chicken didn't know what she was
doing. She is a sweet bird.
Please be careful everyone. I lucked out tonight and feel like puking right
now. This could have been bad.
