Chickens comb is bleeding on both sides!!! What to do? Pics included

Honestly I would keep her inside for a few days so it can scab over. If it were me I would leave the comb be, it’ll likely heal and just not heal together but always have a floppy backend. Just keep her clean, no peroxide, neosporin.
Chicken momma, i agree with you 100%, but this is my first time. The way i feel now is, preventing infection trumps reintegration or anything else at the moment. Shes doing well in the crate. The comb will be left alone to see what happens. I hope this is not a mistake. Now i ponder what has happened?! I wonder if the comb was injured from the metal used on the windows. Whats it called? The hardware cloth maybe? Very possible as they push themselves up against it every night and fight for that spot. In a couple days, i will bring dog crate into the run and I will sit out there the entire time to monitor things. In the meantime, i have lowered one of the 2 8ft roosts so its like 4 inches above coop floor, and left the other one in place. I had only one to begin with, but they were pushing one another off and climbing over one another to get to the ‘Best Spot’ by the window. Theres another window on the other side of the coop tho! Come on girls. Damn TSC chickens are maybe not 100%?! I still love em tho🤷🏼‍♀️ 🐓❤️

She’ll be inside for a bit. Greatful i can be here all the time. I just sat on the kitchen floor with her since 10am. Its 5pm now and i’m Feeling comfortable moving her to the dog crate in the living room where I may be out of her sight here and there. I’ll post a pic of her right now. Moving forward, a mirror is a necessity for any isolated chicken. It calmed her right down. I’ll do another wash with the vetericyn in a couple hours when hubby returns to help. How nuts will he think I am if I sleep in the living room? On the floor. Next to her? Well at least the couch….. 🐓❤️
About as crazy as mine thought I was when one of my bantams passed and I carried sister in my bra for several days until I could get her a friend. She was lonely and sad!

They’ll just fight over the spots on the highest roost. Can you maybe do something so they can’t use that part of the roost? Is there one that seems to instigate or always be in the middle of the fights?

Sadly they decided to not coop up one night, I had a migraine and just went to bed after work instead of checking everyone, and a raccoon got her and the sister I got for her. They were quite a bit older at that point. They went in to roost every single night, I don’t know what happened that night. We have secured my grow out pen better now.

Yes. There is one thats pretty aggressive with her pecking but they all want this spot. Very strange b/c the other side of coop is a mirror image of the one they fight over! Notice the 2 roosts in the pics. I just removed one and put it pretty low resting on the frame for the nest boxes that jutt out from coop. Blocking off the “trouble location” is the spot near the window. What could i put to keep them from smooshing themselves up against the window with the metal window? Any ideas? Hey, HHH, thats what i call my little coop and family. It stands for Happy, Healthy, Hens! 🐓❤️

Blu-kote would be best, it protects the wound & helps it heal. Other chickens notice any boo-boo & will peck, so the blue color also "hides" the sore.
After cleaning wound with vetericyn,
I usually spray some into a lid & use a q-tip to gently apply to the wound. There is medicine in this product, too, addressing bacterial & fungal. Good stuff!
It will create a protective scab cover & eventually wear off, hopefully revealing a healed comb. Hope she heals well!
Thanks Liz! I’m not sure it’ll heal as more than 50% of comb has come unattached. I feel like the window (made of the tiny metal squares) cant think of name of it….was the reason for this. I cant see one of the Hens actually ripping off the comb that drastically! I’m gonna watch them really well tonight. I may even sit out there for a bit on and off to see. Definitely gonna be there when they go in. They smoosh up against the window to the point their feathers are sticking through the little wire holes. I betcha her little face got smooshed and her comb got stuck and she pulled away and here we are. 🤷🏼‍♀️🐓❤️

So sorry 😞
The problem with combs are that they can bleed profusely. I've stitched up pigeons injured by Hawk attacks but I would hesitate to attempt trying to stitch a comb. A possible option could be surgical glue but if the hen tries to scratch the itchy healing it's back to square one. I hope all goes well for you & your little sweetie. ❤

Thanks Liz, we survived the evening and so far this AM shes eating, drinking and pooping. I gave her a little egg yolk this AM and she ate it all up. Now we are watching chicken videos on youtube. She loves her mirror and stares at it often, lol. Her comb is still there and we’ll do our vetericyn cleaning soon. 🐓❤️

A few months ago, my overzealous cockeral tried to mate one of his hatch mates, and grabbed her comb, instead of her neck. It ripped 3/4 of the comb off. I noticed it when I got home from work and by the time I came out with the "chicken first aid kit" somebody pulled off the dangling comb. We were afraid she wouldn't have any comb for cooling, but because she was young, and the comb was still growing, she's actually growing a really cool, flat, blade -like comb with no points. Chickens are amazing little healers. She's perfectly fine now. My point of that was to let you know that your pullet will be okay. Just keep the disinfectant, I use blu kote, on it, and she'll be back with the flock in no time.
