Maybe Garete will teach him a lesson and ca him down.

I've had 100%, certified, egg-laying pullets and hens beat the ever-living heck out of cockerels and roosters that "step out of line". For instance, a cuckoo Marans hen of mine just lit into Brewster with everything she had when he tried to mount her.No, no crowing, but "she" sure as heck beat the tar out of Hika Ma like I've never seen a pullet do before. All the signs have been there, though, and I have been worrying about that for the past week, so I guess it isn't much of a surprise. I'm just hugely disappointed, especially since I went through all that effort quarantining another darned rooster. I suppose, though, that Hika Ma has been misbehaving. Perhaps 'Marka' will be a more docile protector for the flock like Po has been.![]()
I am at 90%, likely not 100% because I am in denial. (After referring to him as a girl for 3 weeks, it has my brain spinning.) His comb and wattles have been reddening and he's at most 18 weeks old right now. His feet are pretty big in comparison to his size, which I had always thought was quite large for a pullet anyway. His neck feathers are shiny, although I don't see any saddle feathers yet. His tail has that droopy look to it like other Silkie roosters I have seen pictures of. I don't see any streamers and his crest is somewhat rounded, but it also has that swept-back look everyone talks about in their Silkie cockerels. And I'm not talking just a peck to put Hika Ma in his place, I'm talking a full-on fight that was instigated by Hika Ma, who has only ever been interested in one thing from my for sure pullets. So yeah, not 100%, but very close to it.![]()
But that's okay, because Hika Ma is being a jerk and is right on the verge of eviction from my flock anyway. I've had to handle him a lot in order to get him from his cat carrier to his crate and back again, and he's started freaking every time I get near him, resulting in such events as him knocking his water dish from my hand and spilling it everywhere. I do not want to deal with this while he is set loose among my hens.Marka is calm and laid back. I can tell he doesn't like being held, but he tolerates it so well.
He seems like he'll be a good boy in the flock, assuming he and Po get along.![]()
And yeah, demon-spawn hen. The last time she was in the main flock, she grabbed one of my Sebrights by her head and pretty much hanged her there while kicking her repeatedly. Pure evil. I can't trust her around my bantams or any pullets I bring in. She's so aggressive, she fights her way to the very top of the pecking order every time she's out, too. And she is a smaller hen, too, just a little bit smaller than most of my Easter-eggers, which should tell you how aggressive she is to be able to conquer the larger and heavier hens.
Oh dear. Sounds like she may be a he after all. But, y'know, so long as he's nice and not mean, there's not much of a reason to be disappointed, anyways. My sis has a silkie rooster and he's quite a sweet fellow. I think Marka will be a perfectly good fellow.I am at 90%, likely not 100% because I am in denial.
