Chimes....Love them or hate them?

For some odd reason

I dont like chimes. Since i was a kid they annoyed me. I like peace and quiet. Just me and the birds.

Even though I have sensory integration dysfunction, chimes are a sound I can more than tolerate. In fact, I enjoy them very much!

At the local feed store they have gargantuan chimes and I had to sway one just to see how they sound, given that they are so large. These huge chimes made a deep, satisfying sound. I can imagine they would be great for a big barn or pole-structure building on a farm like we had when I was a child. I can close my eyes and hear the drong-dronging sounds mixed with the crackle of grasshoppers, the bellow of cows, cackling chickens, and a gurgling stream. Only in my dreams!

Most of the time I love wind chimes. But I live in Oklahoma, where the wind NEVER stops blowing. Most of the time it isn't too bad. Then there are the days it is just "clang, clang CLANG!"

I like them, so calming. But only one or maybe two sets within hearing distance. Too many and it's hard to hear the birds and other sounds of nature, which are equally calming.

On a related note, a friend loved to sit and listen to the song birds each morning. Then a house was built next door with a decorative waterfall. It is so loud that he can't hear the birds anymore.
