Cochin/silkie sick chicks?

I looked it up. Tractor supply is the closest to me. I can get it.
It doesnt hurt them to at least try and see if its the solution right?

I only have done the electrolytes and probiotics so far. But they didnt drink compared to eating.

I am still thinking they werent eating as much as they should of been.
Its worth a try. Boiled eggs are good for added protein and if they aren't drinking I would make them. Add alittle water to their crumbles to make a mash ans that will give them more water intake. Chicks usually enjoy the mash more than the dry food.

It says treating them can make them worse.

I can do that tomorrow. Its 11 pm. They already ate and drank what they were going to. Theyre all huddled together even tho its 80 degrees in there.

I will give an update on them after I check them in the morning to see if they survive.

I did what I knew was probably the best. I have them together by themselves. In a control temp. With electrolyte and probiotics.
The food is different but they at it all up by the end of the night.

I am gonna try to bring them back to health.

If anyone has anymore suggestions please feel free to tell me them.

I think they were stressed out and didnt eat. So theyre sick so I am hoping that they can come through this being back home.
I love these guys so much and its breaking my heart.
I hope they all make it

If they are huddled they may need supplemental heat especially if they are sick. I hope they make it as well I know how it feels to have special birds and not know how to save them. I have my own babies I wouldn't want to lose.

I would treat them for Coccidiosis. You can find Corid in the cattle section of Tractor Supply. Dosage is 1 1/2 teaspoons Corid powder or 2 teaspoons of 9.6% Corid liquid per gallon of water.
Give for 5-7 days - make sure this is the ONLY water available during that time period. Mix a fresh batch at least once a day.

Don't give extra vitamins during the course of treatment.

Raise your water station onto a block of wood or something, this will keep it cleaner and free of wood shavings.

I would still check their crops first thing in the morning to see if they are empty. Spitting up brown liquid can be an indication of crop problems or if picked up and pressed, they will sometime spit up liquid and aspirate.

Keep us posted.

I looked coccidiousis and I found a treatment I can do and a preventative.
I still dont think they have it though. They dont have the symptoms.

They were spitting up clear liquid. Their poop is brown. The only one runny ish was the one that passed.

They probably were under eating and I didnt notice. When I picked them up I probably pushed it out. They had 2 water sources and probably drank more than ate.

I am gonna treat all of them just as a preventative as I do not want to lose any more birds just in case.

These 8 were very fragile and easily stressed out when I got them. I have a horrible feeling I stressed them out and caused theyre deaths.

Being fluffed up/huddled is a symptom of Coccidiosis. What did you find as a treatment and preventative?

Spitting up clear liquid to me is still a indication of a crop issue unless they are running out of water and then drinking a lot. Do they have chick grit?
It's not uncommon for crop issues to be a symptom of an underlying condition - anything that slows, blocks or disrupts the digestive process in turn, causes crop problems. Some common causes of crop problems are Coccidiosis (inflammation of the intestines), Worms (again inflammation and/or blockage), reproductive disorders (yours are young so really not a concern, but infection/inflammation) and any type of infection can cause swelling. Of course chick(ens) can consume bedding, long pieces of food/vegetation, etc. and end up with an impaction or blockage either in the crop, gizzard or intestines.

adding a little more info - there are 9 strains of Coccidia in chickens, only 2 show up as blood in the poop so just because there is no blood does not mean there's not a problem- evaluating symptoms as a whole gives you a better idea of what's going on. Also if you are hesitant in treating - take a mix of samples to your vet or state lab for testing of Coccidia and worms to see if they need treatment.
They arent throwing up water anymore. They were filling up their crop with more water than food and when I picked the one up it spit it out cause I put my hand on it.
It only happened once and hasnt happened again.

They ate and drank but before I fed them I checked their crops and they werent swollen or full of fluid or any food.

Theyve had chick grit mixed in with their food.

I already looked up about sour crop and impacted crop henced why I checked.

I already updated theyre already moving around a lot more and more aware.
Before I left I watched them eat and drink before falling back to sleep. There is only 1 cochin and one silkie still fluffed but they're slowly unfluffing. They arent sleeping huddled unless I make a noise and scare them awake then they huddle.

ahh...I must have misunderstood about the liquid coming out of their crops.

Amprolium is Corid. I hope they get to feeling better.

No offense taken at all! I'm glad you are doing research/reading and learning! A very wise thing to do:)

Awe thank you. Yeah like the dewormer. Theyre too weak and it could kill them.

Right now theyre doing better. And thats just good right now. I might have just stressed them out

UPDATE NUMBER 2

its now around 3. It was 8 when I fed and checked them.

Theyre moving around a lot more. And eating a lot. Not drinking as much.
Theyre still fluffed but not nearly as bad. Its almost down now. Still staying near each other but eating and sleeping.
