Hey gang.

Just became the proud new owner of 2 lavender pekins(cochin bantams)

i am convinced that the one with the black beak is a girl. The breeder has selected the other(yellow beak) as a girl.
They are about 4 weeks old and adorable! I do have my doubts as to the yellow beak being a girl, any thoughts please share. They wont be SQ but i love them to bits!

The light beak is male other is female. If you want more information on Self Blue Cochins there is an excellent thread here on BYC. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/222829/self-blue-cochin-bantams

Well my new cochin chicks hatched yesterday, and they sure are cute.

But now I need to begin studying the new color SOP's and learn about the genetics. I appear to have two blue or a blue and a black, two splash, three mottled and one blue mottled. I do have one concern, some of the chicks do not have yellow feet. Is this going to be a problem? I thought all cochins had yellow feet, why do my splash and blue/blacks have dark feet like an Ameraucana or silkie chick? Should I be concerned that those chicks might not be pure bred? Could they be crossed with silkies or something?

I know it isn't a great shot, but notice how dark the feet of the chick on the left are c ompared to the chick on the right? These are going to be for my daughter to breed and show in 4H. Is this a fault that would make it unsuitable for breeding? Thank you for any advice, folks.

Had to edit, the second pic didn't show up the first time.
