Cochin Thread!!!

Right, Mille Fleur is not an accepted color in Cochins, but we're striving towards it becoming one one day. Calicos are off-shoots of the MF project. These are the birds that hopefully, when bred together in right combination, will produce the correct Mille Fleur color/pattern.
Most likely Calicos will never become an accepted color, but aren't they pretty?!

Pretty decent Mille Fleur: (pretty close, anyway.. enough that I'd call them MF)

I have a question about black. I have two guaranteed Roos, one is 9 weeks the other is 11. The 11 week has dark grey fuzz still, and his feathers are almost laced looking, with grey on the inside and lined with black. My 9 week old is black black, and has this beautiful green sheen, that I swear looks purple sometimes. What's up with the difference in colors? The 11 week old is the one I was worried about feathering slow, he's finally getting more feathers in, but I honestly have no idea how he'll turn out. Any ideas?

Hello Peyton, CO! A picture would really help identify the 11-week old. And watch the sheen on the other one - you want it to be a green sheen - not purple.

I think the 11 week old could be a blue. Can you post a picture? I would wait to see what color the sheen is on the 9 weeker when he is grown. Could they both be from a blue X blue crossing? pics would help. :)

A few of the Columbians I have been able to save this year. I have let them run outside all day for months to try to determine the ones that will yellow and I have been culling those. Hoping it helps the quality greatly as I plan to continue doing this for 3 years minimum.

Craig
I love your birds Craig! My little ones from Dick are just about 5 months now. I have 2 girls that I kept that look pretty good just need work on the color pattern but they type is pretty good. At 5 months old I guess they will change a bit more but not sure. I have 3 roos the same age not sure which one to keep yet.

I posted quite a few pictures on the Mille Fleur thread, but I wanted to share some of my favorites here too

Hi!
I know the woman had blues blacks and splash, as well as a bunch of others. The 9 week for sure has the purple look in sun. I will try to get a picture of the 11 week old. A while back I was worried how slow Smoke was feathering, but he's coming along pretty well, still not as fluffy as the others though. Thanks guys!

He has better chevrons on his chest, that's for sure. He's only 4 months old, too. Both roos will play a major role in my MF breeding program :)
