Cochin Thread!!!

Yeah, I had him in my sandbox brooder in the basement the first few months, and as soon as the lid was lifted in the slightest, he would hop up on the side to visit with me, the little cutie. I was trying hard not to get attached to him, because I thought the other two had a better chance of good type based on what pen they came from.

Top one is the pullet 2nd is the hen 3rd and 5th is a Cockerel that is going to Florida 4th is my favorite with the pullet close behind. 5th is the pullet you like.


Will try hatching more out in March.

What would you use for SL to improve type? What about to improve color? I am trying to get a handle on this but genetics blow my mind.....
i agree with craig... a GOOD columbian would help with type, then breeding successive generations back to each other will help with color IMO...
breeding columbian (Co/Co) to silver laced (Pg/Pg Ml/Ml Co/Co) will give you all pure Co/Co based birds and from there it's a matter of getting the other 2 mutations back homozygous.

this might help too, as it shows the different variations of Pg and Ml on Co/Co.
