Cochin Thread!!!

Not saying they are noisy. Just that all roosters can be. They are quieter then large fowl. I built an enclosure around my run, put my coops against a wall and the windows at an angle away from the windows and my neighbours.
okay so they are pretty quite? ( as far as roo's go that is! lol!)

then again, I've got 4 dorking roos, the EE, 1 bantam and 1 LF blue laced red 'dotte... then there's the 2 mille fleur -, 1 blue mottled -, 2 red -, 1 silver laced - bantam cochins, oh and 3 Swedish flower hen roos...

I hear roos occasionally. probably the most annoying is my bantam blrw. he' gets into a 'bagawk-fest' and will not stop! the littlest thing sets him off. hubby calls him the 'little old lady' for all his complaining he does.

even with all these guys, and the doors open during the day, I work from home and only really notice it when they come up to the door and crow in, telling me they are absolutely starving to death and wasting away to nothing. LOL at which point, I usually tell them they'll live till it's dinner time. go find some bugs to eat. and then slam the door in their faces. I probably wouldn't have made a good mother to 'skin kids'. LOL
lol! :)

How loud are everyone's hens? I've got 2 month old americauna's (2), barred rock, & Cochin. Now we have one month old silkies (2), barred rock, & Cochin. I have a friend that swears his hens are loud & make tons of noise. We live in town & thought the hens would be quiet. I think he could just be exaggerating. We have sirens & tons of other noises is I'm sure they won't bother the neighbors if they do cackle!!

The egg song can get pretty loud. Search online for 'egg song' and there are tons you can listen to.

Some will sneak in and lay quietly, but most seem to like to let you know, either before or after (my last batch was louder before laying). I will say, though, my boys can sing a right fine egg song, too, in addition to their crowing..

My hens like to sing after they lay ( only two or three of them are really loud) lol!

Retirees on both sides. One still works part time but they aren't home bodies. Guess will have to offer up some eggs if they say anything
