Cochin Thread!!!

So the chicks my husband bought me last week are doing well but I have a question about one. It has recently decided it likes to lay on it's back and side a lot. This worries me a bit but at the same time I'm confused it eats and drinks well and also has normal little poos but when it gets going too fast or the other bumps into it it just lays down I took a pic of it, none of my Cochins have ever done this not have my other breeds anyone have any ideas?

At first I thought splay leg but he stands and walks just normal so I don't know what to do :/

I know right! Its funny cause if the other chicks bumps him he just lays there kinda like the kid off of A Christmas Story (Ralphie I can' get up!) but at the same time I'm like should I be worried or is he just lazy? He is a fat little thing

Don't know. Might sound kinda cold, but he'll make it or he won't. Not much you can do if there is a problem.

No its the truth and it sadly happens but I just hate not knowing what it is, I wish there was a chicken vet school or program lol

You can try putting him on your shoulder and burping him. It will make you feel better, but chickens can't burp, so it won't do anything for him. Sorry. Give him a chance, it might be just laziness.

That came off a little cold. He's not plugged up, is he? Try a little ACV in his water, and smear a little baby oil on his butt.

I got a beer may need two been a rough one today. Wicked he is cute and I hope he makes it. I have a speckled Sussex who eats laying down, plop, eat from feeder or grass, up n move a bit then plop again. She creeps like an ivy vine.

The bird you are asking about is a Birchen, however there is some kind of of red or even patterned leakage below his cushion.

No this is not normal, but it is not laziness either. It may be something neurological. More than likely this won't correct itself so you will be stuck with a handicapped chicken. The worst thing about that is - more than likely he will never be able to integrate into a flock that doesn't know him. If he stays with the group he is in now, they may let him live and just observe him as normal. A new group of birds won't be so kind. (I'm using the term "kind" very loosely)

Idk about that, just care for him and love him and as long as he eats and drinks and continues to poop well then if I were you I'd keep him and let him live as best a life he can. Who knows really it could be anything from shyness to laziness to health issues. Good luck to you and the chick. Keep us posted!
