Cochin Thread!!!

Only problem is that I now have too many roos. 1 full grown something, 1 bantam cochin, 1 bantam crele old english & 1 rock. And only 7 hens. Ugh don't want to get rid of any. They're my "kids"!

Was told at the feed store that he was a silkie. Silkie thread said he was a cochin. Was wondering why he looked so strange compared to a silkie. He's awesome!

a cochin 100%

I recently (4 weeks) got 7 partridge Cochin from MPC. Great color, but most are getting major vulture hocks, yours looks like it is doing the same. No worries, I bought these for broody hens.

Edit: mine are about the same color as whoever is macking out in your feed bowl!

re: vulture hocks in chicks, don't worry about that, those are just their 'bloomers' vulture hocks are actually very stiff feathers that remain prominent in adult birds. what you're seeing is just part of the feathering out process.

Here are my 4 week old pictures for my little Cochins! There are 13 of them so hope it's not too much spam :p. 6-18-2014

Adventurer - Silver Laced (Betting this is a little boy, he is getting some blue shine in his feathers. He is starting to show interest in making sure no one gets lost or separated from the rest.),

Carrot Top - Gold Laced (She is our lone ranger. Likes to sit where no one is going to bug her or step on her but loves to be held and just sit in your hand.),

Cotton Ball - Splash (The 'click' in her chest doesn't sound so bad today and she has been kinda active when we go outside in the evenings. Crossing my fingers she gets better like Green Legs did!),

Cry Baby - Splash (This one likes to be next to people but don't pick her up or, ITS THE END OF THE WORLD!!),

Cuddles - Gold Laced (She loves to be held and will sit in your hand as long as you will let her.),

Eyeliner - Gold Laced (Betting this is a little boy. He is kinda low on the pecking chain with the 4 roo's.),

Foxy - Gold Laced (She also loves to be held and is happy to sit in your hand as long as you will let her.),

Green Legs - Splash (All better and doing fine! She is as big as Cry Baby now!) ,

Nibblet (aka Nibbz) - Gold Laced (She follows me around so she can bite the hem of my shirt when I squat down...),

Nivens - Silver Laced (Named after the White Rabbit on Alice and Wonderland. VERY punctual about being inside for bed at EXACTLY 9pm!) ,

Sidekick - Silver Laced (Betting this is a little boy, he is getting some blue shine in his feathers. He is Adventurer's little copy cat. If Adventurer is doing something, Sidekick is never far behind!),

Snapper - Silver Laced (Betting this is a little boy, he is getting some blue shine in his feathers. This stinker likes to run up and snatch little beak full's of feathers from the others and run away with them to make them chase him...),

and Speckles - Silver Laced (She is just a little happy go lucky and likes to hang out with Cotton Ball when they are outside.).

No one panic on that last one! She is sleeping not dead! :p She was REALLY getting into her dirt bath and it put her to sleep.

Do you think my 18 week old looks like a roo? No crowing yet, so I'm not sure. Thanks!

That is a tuff call! I'm going to say no though. The tail doesn't look like it has any rooster feathers in it but they might just not be developed yet. Some hens can develop a tall comb. I had a chicken once with a big comb I swore it was a roo....till it showed up with baby chicks one day lol. You will have to let us know what it ends up being for sure though! Bet she starts laying in another 2-4 weeks for you! ^_~ Its a very good looking bird!
