Cochin Thread!!!

Question regarding leg banding feathered legged birds. I don't want to damage their feathering, but it would be nice to band for reference. Thoughts..ideas? I have seen tiny zip ties for chicks with a watchful eye to growth. I would like to keep them identified as I want birds from different genetic backgrounds for my own breeding.

Usually, because you have to band show birds, I try to place the band up higher on their leg, where the feathers start to slope out.

I'm brand new to chickens and was really excited about getting a Cochin for our flock. I've been reading all about them and love their looks.

We named our little chick Lavender and looking at all the variations of Cochin, I'm wondering what color you think she will be? I am thinking she looks blue or maybe blue splash. Here are pics of her at just a day old and now at about four weeks.

And a blurry/nerdy one with me.

I didn't even know there was a "lavender" color and that's what I named her!! Awesome. My best pics are below, she doesn't seem to have speckles that I can see. She is really quick and doesn't love to be held so hard to photograph.

The bottom picture looks like a hen to me, not a rooster. But i could be wrong.

LOL Well, my guy looks just like that and he crows and fights with the other Roosters and tries to mate with the hens. I'm pretty sure he's a boy. LOL

I don't see anything wrong with their combs.... what do you mean?

The Golden Lace has a big comb while my Black Rooster has a small comb but he is a little older. Also, the Golden Lace is noticeably bigger than my Blackie.
