My Cochin cockerel had bright red comb and wattles when I got him at 6 weeks. By 15, they should have definite saddle feathers. All my boys have gotten saddle feathers starting by 12 weeks of all the breeds.Hi everyone, sorry if this is a completely noobie thing to do, but I have two cochin girls and a friend of mine who has chooks seems certain that they are roos so I wanted a second opinion from some people who know the breed. They are 15 weeks old in this pic. Thanks for the help![]()

He was judging more on behaviour and growth that they are roos but the lack of wattles and comb even by this age tells me that they must be girls.
Then it definitely sounds like they are pullets. ThanksMy Cochin cockerel had bright red comb and wattles when I got him at 6 weeks. By 15, they should have definite saddle feathers. All my boys have gotten saddle feathers starting by 12 weeks of all the breeds.
Did you have to train her to guard and not harm the chickens? I have a mutt and a lab that are chicken obsessed, and not in a good way. My mutt actually has had a couple of run ins. He didn't kill any until the last one, and then he didn't kill it, but it died from him playing keep away with me. He didn't eat it or even rip into it or anything. It was like he thought it was a toy and he was proud of his prize. I put the fear of God in him and he doesn't even go near the coop anymore. The lab is a big dumb idiot and she hyper focuses on them, lunges at them through the fence, etc., but only when we are out with them. I never let the dogs and chickens out at the same time. I want a farm guardian dog, but I've also read that Great Pyrs, etc. have to be trained 1-2 years before you can trust them with the flock.
