What do you feed for gamebird feed? Also, who sells finisher around here? I've been thinking about switching feed as well...

I feed Game Bird Starter Grower Crumbles (22% protein, 4 % fat)

I got Dumor Poultry Grower Finisher (15% protein, 2.7% fat) at Tractor Supply today.

And the Farmers Union has Poulin Grower/Finisher (but they were out right now)

I'll mix those two together.

I'm thinking about throwing in a bit of fine cracked corn to the mix as well, since the birds love that.

Hi all! We added our first BBS Bantam Cochins earlier this year and LOVE them. They're cute as can be and have such wonderful temperaments. There are some gorgeous pics here folks! Here's a picture of my favorite little pullet. She's one of only two chickens in the flock that seek us out to be picked up and cuddled. I simply can't resist her puffy chicken cleavage.

I feed a 16% protien All Purpose Poultry mixed with a five grain scratch. Both are Pyback Brand. There are only two feed stores around here and that's all they sell. My birds are fat and sassy.

I also suppliment in a soybean meal to give them extra protien if it gets really cold. I can also get a meat bird grower ration if I want the extra protien, but it also has all of the medications in it as well.

Hi everyone, I've been reading these posts for a few days and have to say that your birds are beautiful. I have 2 roosters and 2 hens. Although I have other breeds my favorite are the Cochins. I laugh every time one of my boys lumbers away from me. so funny.
I feed Layena free choice. This is supplemented with homemade yogurt every other day and cottage cheese on the off day. On sundays in winter I cook up oatmeal, add scrambled eggs and some olive oil. They love this concoction. I try to provide greens in various forms and am now beginning to grow meal worms fed with a reptile supplement to augment the CA and vitamins. My birds feathers are bright and shiny . I don't show so don't know what they look for in the show ring but the added fat and vitamins sure makes my birds shine.

I give mine free fed Layena year-round and then, in the winter, around Christmas they get a flock block and then I give them a few handfuls of cracked corn every day. They also get multiple kitchen scraps every day.

Just curious how long a flock block lasts. I can totally see my chickens polishing that off in no time! Would it hurt them if they eat too much of it?

I have 14 chickens, and it lasted mine about 1 week or so... however mine broke up a little because I dropped it

so, some of it was lost in the dirt/mud

They absolutely love it, and it gives them a nice energy and protein boost in the dead middle of winter. That's what I normally get them for Christmas as their present
