Cochin Thread!!!

Here is a photo of my little mystery chick...... What do you think it's color is? I was kinda leaning towards Silver Penciled, but have no idea. I'm thinking about emailing the guy who I got the mottled eggs from and asking him what else he has that this egg could have come from.

I am thinking of getting Bantam Cochins when we move to a less "farmy" house/ neighborhood. If I get the house we are looking at now, we have a fenced area at the back of the yard that I could use as a pen for them. I think it is about 3 or 4 feet high... is that tall enough to keep these guys in? I've heard that Bantams in general fly better than most chickens, but Cochins don't look like they are really built for flight. LOL!

Also, how loud are the roosters? Do they crow loudly like other "regular" chickens? I think we are technically allowed to have chickens there, but it might not make the new neighbors happy if they have to listen to them.

Hello!

This Frizzled Cochin is close to 2 years old now.
I bought her at a chicken fair and the owner said he thought she was show quality.

I am entering her into our local fair and want to know if she has a good chance.

If you could tell me whats wrong with the way she looks and whats right with the way she looks that would be very helpful.

Twyla, I went back to page 287 and still couldn't find him.

Okay, you are talking about Rustys daddy, I sold him last fall, he was a Mille Fleur Columbian mix. He was very striking with the black feathers but not standard for buff Columbian so I changed him out. He had some nice offspring though, I kept a few of his daughters~

Awwww, Dang! I would have bought him, he was soooo gorgeous! He was the bird who got me lovin' that color!

I wish I had known he was 4 sale. Could you please repost his pic so I can at least have something to drool at?

I have amottled or splash baby....not sure whatp it will be yet....thatp i purchased from someone. I just noticed o.ight that he or she has a 5th toe growing 2 fully formed regular toes. Its legs are closee to slate or blue though its toes are yellow. Skin is white. It looks like a vesidual toe or something. Its about a week and 3 days old. Is this a spur? I cant upload a pic because i am posting from my phone. It is supposed to be a slbc.

no it's a cross breed. silkies sultans dorkings and faverolles have 5 toes.

my guess is a silkie cross

No!!!!!! That makes me mad. He or she is super cute...so that wouldnt be a slbc spur? Just kidding
I hope its a pullet so at least pwe can get some eating eggs.

Looks like silver pencilled mix to me. Whatever it is; it's a very pretty little chick~
