Sanna,
I just sent you a PM.
I was only able to hatch 4 chicks from 3 dozen of her eggs. Shipping was pretty rough on them. When they were about 7 weeks old, I was sure that they were all boys. They had large combs for such a young age, but after another month, it became clear that there was only 1 boy and 3 girls. Are they still young? Maybe they just need more time. It's odd to have that many boys, but not impossible.
As far as the roosters go, I wish there was someone like that around here. That's really nice of him to take in roosters. I'm trying to rehome 4 or 5 of mine right now and it's a very slow process. It takes me forever to decide who stays and who goes (I love them all) and then when I finally make the decision, no one wants them.
Last time I got lucky, a man came with his daughter to pick out a rooster for their flock and they loved him so much, they came back for another and told their friends how incredibly friendly our roosters were. That time, they went pretty fast and each one went to a great home.
Well, first I'm defintely no pro or old timer wih chickens. Got my first this last June. So for what it's worth here is my two cents:Hi all,
I was thinking of getting a bantam (or large fowl possibly) cochin! Can I have some info on them?? pros and cons? egg production? temperament? Climate tolerance?? Thanks!
i'm going to guess, based on my own past experiences, if it is a cochin, it's either going to be birchen (first choice) or black... but black chicks tend to have more yellow down IMO.Hi there,
I was wondering if you could help me.
I picked up 7 mixed chicks yesterday from a local breeder.
They're all purebred, but because I wasn't fussed what breeds I got, he just grabbed the best looking 7 from the bator as quickly as possible (still others hatching in there).
I asked him what he thought I had in there, and from a quick peek in the top of the box, he thought there was an Australorp...
When I had a better look after introducing them to my broody, the black chick has feathered feet and seems noticably smaller than the other chicks.
Now I'm wondering if it's not a bantam cochin?
Wdyt? (thanks so much!)

thanks so much! Birchen would be beautiful! Any way I can tell for sure if its a Cochin?i'm going to guess, based on my own past experiences, if it is a cochin, it's either going to be birchen (first choice) or black... but black chicks tend to have more yellow down IMO.
