Cochin Thread!!!

Monte Cristo! Her barred coloring is starting to come in even in her little feet. I am having a hard time finding pictures of barred cochins for comparison. Does anyone here raise these or know about them?

My god! That is so beautiful! I have a new goal. Lol thank you so much for posting this. Do you think standard cochins will kill the sod quickly? I know bantams are muuuch smaller.

My thought is the grass will not hold up because the Poo burns plants if used a fertilizer if it has not been composted for at least a year. Hope I am wrong.

I wonder if cleaning it up daily will help it last. It shouldn't be that hard to replace it every couple of months though. Doesn't sound too costly. Has anyone tried moss? Or another type of ground cover plant?

This question is related to all breeds of chickens but I follow this thread and everyone is so knowledgable so I thought I would ask here first....

Does anyone with Columbian colored chickens have more problems with mites in that color than any other color?

I ask because with the 50+ chickens I have three that color (lt. Sussex from GF and a pair of bantam wyandottes) and I battle mites and leg mites with only those three for two years now, when no others get them? Is the white coloring more sensitive? Is it just a coincidence? My friend with 100 chickens has one brahma roo and he always has leg mites when no others do too???

Any ideas?

You got the wrong breed if you didn't want them to go broody! Haha because they will go broody at the snap of a finger! Haha

the broody momma is one of my blue mille fleur girls, from a mille fleur roo and one of Mandy's blue partridge girls I got last summer.
