Cochin Thread!!!

Hey lilcrow, thanks for all that info!!
My NG is in the coop with the food and water, so she is able to eat. my cochins are bantams, and they have no issue with her in the coop, and they even sleep with her up on the roost. Its just when she gets out of the coop and trys to scratch around the pen. The bantams get out of the pen and have access to my yard, but even when they are in the yard, and the NG gets out into the pen, they will get back in the pen and chase her back in the coop again. They arent hurting her, but peck until she goes back in. NG usually just stands there and takes it for a few minutes then go back in.

As long as she doesn't start running around with her head down looking for a place to get under, she'll do well. Sounds like one of these days she will have something to say about the pipsqueaks harrassing.

Some recent babies hatched--3 are mille fleur and 1 silver laced. The SL is has most white on body and grizzled black "saddle"

Got this pretty baby from Tractor supply a few weeks ago because s/he was "doomed for death" as the TS associate stated. Took it home and it was just fine acted like all the other chicks I've ever had. After a couple weeks of it being my mystery chick I now have it narrowed down to being a bantam cochin because it was in the "assorted bantams" box. I'm curious though because its foot feathering seems super long compared to the other chicks I have seen its age (5 weeks) Has anyone else ever seen this could s/he be a possible cross? Gender predictments and color are also appreciated. S/he sometimes looks black then blue then gray lol this is my 1st cochin and I know nothing about them lol Educate me ;)

Pretty black cochin bantam! Most likely a roo. And yep feet feathers are correct in how long they are. Congrats!

that's part of what I love about the cochins... here are some of mine I've grown out, showing more or less feathering on the feet... ideally the outside toe AND the middle toe are fully feathered, and sometimes even the inside toe, but not usually... my red girl went overboard I think (on the foot feathering).

The Columbian is/was Lucky just shortly after he died - learning to walk again...
long story but he's going strong now! I need updated pics of him. LOL

Awesome I figured he would turn out black! Thanks on the congrats and input, how are cochin roos personalities? I usually don't keep roos because I have had bad experience but if hes a bantam he can't be too much trouble lol My husband has an amazing bond with him too so I really don't think he is going anywhere anyways

The roos are usually friendly and rarely mean. I had 10 adult roos all livin together without issue. All did fine and all were sweet to me. Since then I have sold 5 off and hatchin new breeding stock and will again add more roos to my current 5.
