I've heard of english orpingtons but never an english cochin.

I don't really know about Cochins I have blue and blue copper marans but I've wanted some Cochins I love the blue so I bought these blue cochine chicks

With my chicks, from day one comb size is a pretty good indicator. I'm not sure how old the chicks are, but I would compare them all and only take the ones with smaller combs. If they are only a few days old, the pullet combs may be so small you can barely make them out.

I would agree, i bought some at 4 & 2wks and i could see the comb on the one 4 weeker.. definitely a cockerel, he's already tried to crow but i can keep them here so that was okay with me.

Well they are 5 days old today and my little molted chicks comb is more visible the the blue. On "him" you can see more ridges. The little blue is still flat and barley visable so I think I ended up with a cockerel and a pullet.

So on that note by law where I live I can keep roosters. It just my neighbor giving me such a hard time that I gave my last roo to my dad.
So here's my next question. I have been reading and several people say that cochin bantam roosters tend to have a quieter crow and aren't probe to crowing all the time. What are your opinions on that b/c I'd really love to keep him. If him is a him?

I must disagree with that. All roosters crow - or should. They're maybe not as loud as large fowl breed, but they have their "spells" during the day. You can expect them to crow in the morning and evening, mine set up a raucous at noon and about anytime I go out to work with them. I don't think they're as bothersome as a barking dog.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I am still new to the Cochins.
Are lavendars and blues the same thing or is lavendar considered different b/c it is a lighter shade?
And also do blue cochin chicks have little gray/blue down on there legs/ feet and splash chicks have yellow?
My little blue chicks is tricky. She is a lighter shade of blue then the other pics of blue chicks but has a less yellow then pics of splash chicks blur more yellow then pics of blue chicks?
I really really want her to be a splash!!!!!

Flock, blue and lavender are genetically different colors. When breeding blue you will also get black and splash, when breeding self-blue (lavender) they breed true and you will only get self-blue. As far as the chick's down color, I see there is one that will be blue for certain, I'm not sure about the other. It appears that it could be splash. You want to keep an eye on the foot feathering, blue chick looks OK the lighter chick could be disqualified due to lack of feathering on the middle toe. That is a requirement for Cochins.

Ok thank
