Once my cochins started laying eggs, their personalities totally changed. They were pretty shy, always ran away from us, but I encouraged my kids to not chase them and hold them when they could so they would get used to it. My kids would turn them upside down and they'd relax. BB, our partridge cochin, was the least skittish and the "bravest", and Vivienne was very shy and always ran away. BB started laying first, and she decided she was the Queen Cochin, and wanted attention for doing her good deed. A month later, Vivienne (a very large, fluffy girl) started laying, and the tables turned. Now, Vivi runs up to us to be held and to get a back rub, she's just like a cat. BB tolerates us holding her and does love a good back rub. Vivi lays larger eggs, and now shoos her sister away from treats and scratch, when it used to be the opposite. Who knew I'd be talking about changing chicken personalities! Many changes are in store for you, just be patient and sit with them-read a book or something, and they'll no longer think you want to eat them (at least not yet...)!
