Cochin Thread!!!

I just picked up a white cochin rooster who has been picked on so his taol feathers or lack there of have been nearly picked clean. He is awsome, friendly, will his feathers grow back? Also his comb has black spots where he has been pecked at. He is so sweet he is a standard and backs down to my silkie rooster.

The scabs will fall off leaving a red comb. His tail feathers will grow back. Sounds like he's got a wonderful home now

Hey, cochincoop! Just want to let you know 'Denim' we got from you in October is doing great. Getting 4 to 5 light brown eggs a week. She went broody for a few weeks last month and even stole one of my pigeon's eggs to set on.

She is so funny . . . we just love her! She loves her 'strawberry' treats!

Hey everyone! I am very interested in the bantam cochins, they are just so cute and fluffy! I am looking to get started in them(I have owned chickens for several years) and am looking for some hatching eggs. If anyone has any eggs available from show quality stock or could recommend me to a quality breeder, that would be fantastic!

Thanks so much,

Christina

Question everyone...about breeding.

I have an adorable 3 month old bantam buff cochin pullet named Hera...I am trying to decide on a cockerel for her...I have several variation choices and know nothing about the resulting colors and etc...some help please.

Here is Hera...

cockerel choices are:

Mottled
Gold Laced
Silver Laced

possibly a Mille Fleur project cockerel
possibly a blue cockerel

What would the babies look like...color wise and so forth with each of those options?

If I understand it correctly...Hera a mottled cockerel would give me babies that were split but would not show the mottled gene, yes?

The other color variations I have absolutely no idea and I have to make decision soon.

Thanks for you help and Nadine, as always, love your signature!

I don't think that's a Bantam Cochin. Based upon length of leg and size in comparison to the water and feed dishes it looks to me like you have a Large Fowl Buff Cochin pullet. If it is a bantam it's going to be very leggy.

Cockerel options: Go with a Buff cockerel

Why do you want to cross the other varieties with a Buff?

I have a mottled cochin question! I have a black frizzle chick and some blue/black mottled eggs due to hatch in the next week. Can someone please explain the mottled gene to me? If I am trying to set up a breeding pen should I keep it all mottleds only, or can I put my solid black frizzle in there too?
