Hello everyone,

We have a HUGE lot of (hundred plus) various age chicks ready for new homes. Wife is getting upset because I have so many LOL. We have (Standard) GOLD LACED, SILVER LACED COCHIN, a few BLUE/BLACK (Standard) COCHIN, CUCKOO MARAN, Assorted SILKIE, CUCKOO MARAN, BUFF (Standard) COCHIN to name a few. Chicks vary from a few days old to a few months old, $2-$5.00 each, we are NPIP inspected and approved and live in Lebanon, Missouri (South/Central Missouri Area) between St.Louis and Springfield, right off of Interstate I-44. We should be around this weekend if anyone is interested please email me directly at: [email protected] (Eric). We work graveyard shift hours, but I promise I will get back with you when I get home.

Thanks,
Eric

According to the Genetics Calculator , you would get the following:

Lemon Blue Roo x Partridge Hen =
50% Pullets, black patterned gold incomplete-columbian
50% Cockerels, black patterned gold columbian

Lemon Blue Roo x White Hen =
50% Pullets, black patterned gold incomplete-columbian
50% Cockerels, black patterned gold columbian

Lemon Blue Roo x Black Hen =
50% Pullets, black unicolor
50% Cockerels, black unicolor

Lemon Blue Roo x Blue Hen =
25% Pullets, blue unicolor
25% Pullets, black unicolor
25% Cockerels, blue unicolor
25% Cockerels, black unicolor

(For the above, there was no option for Lemon Blue, so I subbed in Lemon Porcelain. What you may get may be similar or completely different. You can play with the genetics calculator to see the possibilities.)

Im not sure the exact makeup of the lemon blue gene, but if its like the andalusian blue then you should get half and half blues and half blacks. The partridge is a black based color. A splash crossed with partridge will give you blue. Hope this helps

Ok. thanks. I will know in a few months (I hope) Hens are about 4-5 months so should start laying soon.

The above calculations would be what you'd expect if you were using a bird that was genetically lemon blue, assuming pattern genes were the appropriate ones. I've yet to see anyone on this forum post a picture of an actual lemon blue Cochin, that was derived from breeding using pure Brown Red Cochins. Most of what we see are Buff X Blue crosses. So while you may see some of the calculations above, I doubt it will be 100% accurate.

I posted a while back on here with some photos. Time to update, methinks. Keeping a few nice pullets and cockerels from last year and early this year to add to the breeding program.
P.S, I am looking for bantie splash and black cochins that come from exhibition lines. I can't seem to find anything at the time from well known breeders so I was wondering if anyone from this thread knows if anyone has any. Also looking for standard white or buffs from ex. lines.

Wow! What an exquisite flock of cochins, BlueMottie! It definitely pays to start with quality birds if you want a quality flock. I'd say that you are living-breathing testament to that!

Someday I hope to have a flock of Calico Cochins that look as good as your mottled...
