Beautiful birds !!
And I thought you just had awesome Javas !!

Thank you! That's sweet of you to say so. Unfortunately, my Java roos are the boss, so our poor male cochin isn't able to come into his full glory. I wish we had room to set him up in his own quarters, but that won't happen any time soon. *sigh*

Thankfully, our 14 year old, who is very attached to these birds and handles them a lot, agreed that we could sell them. He probably has an ulterior motive, like maybe more welsummers. I hope someone buys them who will treasure them as much as we do.

- so beautiful!
I've got Partridge, Mille Fleur, and Lavender/Self-blue (just started). When my two project-color flocks get better established I sure do want to work on the Buff-barred.

I have a couple of nice Mottled to improve my Mille Fleurs and I have a young little pair of Buffs. I didn't plan on raising Buffs but they were going to be live-trap bait........ and now I know they are so sweet.

A live-trap bait...the buffs must just be telling you that you need yet another breeding project.

The pullet was scranny and pale annd I was having a weak moment at an auction. I got her 6 weeks ago and now she is the top of the pecking order in my youngster pen and is plush and busy, makes a fuss if I don't get the scratch out there in a hurry.
Bantam roosters are put in live traps to catch bobcats because they crow in the mornings and evenings - the cat's hunting times. I can shoot a varmit after my chickens but not a big cat. They are too beautiful and rare. There are some mountain lions in our area. My husband saw one chasing a deer across our backyard a couple of years ago. These days the problem in the area is owls. I would hate to deal with one of them. I think they are protected by law anyway and all my pens are covered.

Ahh. Whatever works! Thankfully, the cats around here keep to themselves. Those predator birds sure do cause some trouble, and most are protected. Thankfully, they have so far left me alone this year (since I stopped free-ranging bantams), but some other locals haven't been so lucky.

My roo came from Jamie Matts. These lines cross up really well and I am always pleased by the birds that have grown up from them. Even when I cross them into my Mille Fleur Cochin project they have thrown some great type.
