Sooo B-U-T-ful! Danny always has the best birds! We still are totally loving our 2 Cochin roos from him. They are in with Frizzle hens now to add better type because his birds rock!

What color are they? Very interesting color!

They're sports out of DANNY's Blue Mille project. I'm banking on them being "Blue Patterned Silver Columbians" - Columbians with the Black pattern diluted to Blue. These two look a bit light in the hackle/tail area to be Blues (they're not Coronation/Self-Blues though), but they're showing some Buff shading since they came out of the Mille project, so that's diluting the pattern a bit as well. I'm going to see what happens if I breed each of them to a regular Columbian later this year. Just a fun project to keep myself occupied.

Now for some pictures of those Columbian chicks. PLEASE!

What a great thread. So glad I was directed here. I have had banty cochins for years now but have finally decided to start getting into show birds. I currently have 5 LF chicks from a supposedly SQ flock in my greenhouse and I have several banty cochins pastured around my property. I have a question regarding colors which I am hoping one of the learned members of this thread can help me with. I have a buff roo who has lots of white in his down and slight white lacing in his hackle & wings. He was hatched by my hens last year and I was wondering what the color of the parents would have to be for this color to come out. I had birchen roos, buff roos, a blue hen, a splash hen, buff hens and a mostly-black-with-a-bit-of-gold-laced-around-the-hackle hen. When I only had the buff hens and roos, all I got were buffs with no other colors or patterns. I am thinking the birchen roo and a buff hen could have created this color. I know he is nothing special and his buff is a bit too yellow, but I was wondering what to breed him to to increase the lacing. Is anyone working on buff laced cochins?

He's very pretty... Im NO geneticist BUT, my common sense would tell me to put him to excellent typed golden laced. I believe your boy has a dilute gene that is softening the gold gene. And, when you put him to golden laced, you will get all shades in between but with better lacing. Select the diluted pullets to put back to him...

Hi, my BC chicks are 3 wks today and had their first time outside. They were soon streaching out in the sun and enjoying them selves. I have to post a few pics.
first of the goldlaced one I like the best, and then of the assorted colors together.

I'm afraid I'm seeing 3or 4 roo's in this bunch, will wait till they crow.

Hello everyone! Just went to the coop and it looks like out of the 16 straight run cochin chicks, 9 are roos! Any my husband thought I was crazy for getting 16, if only he knew what the future held! Anyway, thought I would share a picture of one of my favorite roos- I shouldn't keep , but I'm thinking I could find a nice lemon blue hen for him to settle down with.
