What a great thread. So glad I was directed here. I have had banty cochins for years now but have finally decided to start getting into show birds. I currently have 5 LF chicks from a supposedly SQ flock in my greenhouse and I have several banty cochins pastured around my property. I have a question regarding colors which I am hoping one of the learned members of this thread can help me with. I have a buff roo who has lots of white in his down and slight white lacing in his hackle & wings. He was hatched by my hens last year and I was wondering what the color of the parents would have to be for this color to come out. I had birchen roos, buff roos, a blue hen, a splash hen, buff hens and a mostly-black-with-a-bit-of-gold-laced-around-the-hackle hen. When I only had the buff hens and roos, all I got were buffs with no other colors or patterns. I am thinking the birchen roo and a buff hen could have created this color. I know he is nothing special and his buff is a bit too yellow, but I was wondering what to breed him to to increase the lacing. Is anyone working on buff laced cochins?
