Cochin Thread!!!

I just lost my Partridge Bantam rooster to a coon, took care of that but now I have 6 Partridge hens that need a rooster. I have a really nice Silver Laced Cochin Bantam rooster and wonder what I would get if I crossed him with the Partridge hens. I love the Silver Penciled and wondered if I could get a start of them by this breeding? I'm sure someone who knows genetics can give me some help? I have some young partridge roosters in the brooder so just thought I might try something different until one gets old enough. I like breeding for different colors. My other roosters are Black, Splash, Lavender, Black Mottled, Blue Mottled, Lemon Blue, Buff Barred and Mille. Would breeding with any one of them on the partridge girls give me something different and colorful.

Unless you want a bunch of odd colors that you might have some difficulty getting rid of, I'd wait for a new roo to come on.
That's just my though.............some people have no problem finding homes for "pretty" chickens.

Well. these lttle bantam pullets are nothing to write home about.....

But they are barred and will give me a decent start on that variety.

About 2 months old now.

Now can I breed them to a black roo and then breed the offspring back to a better barred rooster to improve type???

Sorry, I didn't read carefully. You already have some young roos.
I love my partridge trio. The roos is so pretty and my friendliest chicken, loves to be held. One of the hens has excellent lacing, the other's isn't bad.

No my rooster is a Silver Laced Cochin and I know the Silver Penciled are like the partridge only silver based so that is why I was thinking of crossing with the silver laced to put silver into the chicks. Posting pictures of my rooster I lost and 2 of the older hens and some of my pair of Silver Laced I am thinking of breeding them to.

They are up for auction. Their feet are dirty in the pics, they will look much better after a bath.
