I don't know how she was Made, but she looks about 90% Cochin to me..

there are 2 things I want from her...

1. to get to at least B3(back cross 3rd generation to her) to get the Pheno/Geno type stable enough(enough breeding stock) for the second thing
2. to create a tester line of Di(Dilute) and Cb(chanpagne Blond) found by Brumbaugh and Hollander in Buff Minorcas, but are Powerful Diluters and at least Di also a Eumelanin Restrictor...

How will you get the Di and Cb genes introduced to the Cochin line?

No other breed was crossed with making it
its 100% Cochin

What color hens should I breed him to
oh and can you guess what color his parants are??

Yeah, looks like a roo but I thought the color looked blue splash. Just going to be a while before more shows up on it.

I see no splashing in the bird - I see a pretty uniform ash blue. This is the color my lavander d'uccles are...

Lemon Buff Cochin hen mated to a wild type OEG(e+/s+/s+)

breed the F1 back to Wild type OEG(this only works for segregating Dominant genes like Di, Cb, Co,Db)
separate and breed the B1 by Phenotype(looks)...

so after ALL of this work has been finish how would you know if you have found Di or Cb? well Di will dilute the red color of males and females to a Golden color simmilar to Golden(S/s+) and Cb should do the same...

Will you need to outcross to the OEG? If you're going to breed to a wild type, can you find a Partridge? That way you wouldn't lose so much in type. I know you're limited by what you can get a hold of, but if at all possible I'd try to stay with cochins for your color even though the OEG have the patterns AND color down pat. Can you have birds shipped to you from anywhere? Most of my birds have come from breeders that live a long way from me, BUT of course they're in the same country. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know very much about where you are and what the regulations are, you know - the Ugly American syndrome, sorry.

Ok guys, I need some help, about a month ago I bout a pair of barred cochin bantams, and I love them to death, they both look adult, the roo has full comb and wattles, he also has sun stained neck feathers. So I woukd think maybe he is over a year old, he also crows, the hen has red comb and wattles( smaller of course) and she hasnt laid an egg yet, so I jecked her pelvic bones and its maybe a finger and half apart.. confused...

Any ideas what I would call this roosters color?
He is more beautiful in person. Shiny iridescent black, with gold laced neck feathers.
My son wants to take him to the county fair (4H), is this a nonstandard color that will immediately be disqualified? Feather footed bantam is always the largest class. Noah may want to take him even if he would be DQ'd, because sometimes its more about showing off your beautiful rooster than winning a trophy.
