Hey Craig~ It was really nice meeting you at the show! Got signed up with Cochins International, got my breeders directory and met Linda. I didn't have much time to stay very long, just enough to get a quick look at the cochins and a few more gorgeous birds. Got to meet Nancy (Lilcrow) and buy a roo and it was time to go back home

I wish I could have stayed all weekend, I really wanted to meet a lot more chicken folks and put some faces to some names. But, I have my first taste of a show and now I'm ready for more! I sure loved seeing all the beautiful birds~

If anyone is interested in obtaining some cute little Bantam Mille Fleur and Bantam Blue Splash Cochin chicks i just listed some for auction. These little squirts are 1 week old and just beginning to color up. I do ship via Express Mail or home pick-up is welcome! Slainte' Ruth

Mr. Ree :

Did anyone catch who got the best and reserve frizzle Cochins? And did anyone get pics of any other variety than Mottled and Black? Those birds were amazing!

I know that we took pictures of every variety winner and reserve for CI. There was a good White cock bird that drew blood when trying to get a picture of him. I don't know when or if they will posting them soon.

Congratulations to everyone. Such beautiful Cochins.

I also love my Cochins and would like to bred the best that I can. I have 2 mottled cockerels I would like opinions on. Please give me the good and bad for each.
They are 6 months old.

Cockerel #1

I'm concerned about the white in his cushion, is it too much? He has a bit longer body than #2.

Cockerel #2

He has a smaller comb than #1, but its looking better eveyday.

Group picture.

I have some nice black mottled pullets I want to put one or both with. Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings. I want learn and I see from the pictures that many of you know how to breed award winning Cochins. Thank you.

#1 has good type and carries wings high. Yes be a little concerned about the excessive white in tail but is definitely not a reason to not keep him. Has a better sized comb but point count is low. I would only breed him to a hen with at least 4 -5 points
#2 OK but not as good of type as#1 not as good of wings (at least by pictures I can see). The mottling is better size and shape. Nice wide wing feathers . Comb not as nice as #1 and also short on points. Same thoughts on type of hen to breed him to.

Check for proper eye and leg foot color on both birds.

What concerns me with these cockerels is their lack o markings at this age. The appear to be mostly black. #1 has nice tight wings which is something you want to watch. There are quite a few cochins out there with weak wings that tend to hang down like #2. They should have some resistance to them when you pull them out and not flop freely. I would not worry much on the combs. Concentrate on your type first. As far as combs go Unless there is a glaring problem that is one of the last things I look for. Watch the foot and eye color. I can't see that in the pics. In the group pics the type on the darker roo looks better but his wings were a concern

Craig and Mandy, thank you both so much. Its great to get advice from breeds like yourselves. I will check the eye and feet color. I'm hoping they will have more mottling the older they get.

Thanks again, Charlie
