Cochin Thread!!!

I don't want to insult anyone....I bought eggs from luckpickens too at one point.

Perhaps if you are going to breed these birds...keep those who have the best foot feathering.

And maybe look for chicks who have better feathering and type.

It's a long road to really nice bantam cochins, but sometimes those who sell eggs/chicks are not necessarily on that long road.

Ok Thanks, I really hate to start from the beginning, you don't want to know how much I have invested the last 3 months in shipped eggs!!

I just want some nice yard chickens to breed and hatch myself so that I don't have to have them shipped, bad luck with PO this year also. But with the luck I'm having this year I just keep getting disappointed and still no further with what I've spent.

Oh and what about the 2 that were listed as milles that don't look mille? If they do have mille in them would I be able to use them with a more mille colored hen or rooster and get mille or calico colored chicks? Those were the colors I was hoping to get out of them. That's why I ordered "MILLE'S".

I know how you feel. I've been there

I'm hatching my own eggs now.....after 8 years of collecting decent birds.

Do what pleases you. Sometimes your birds may surprise you:)

Hi,

I have been lurking quietly on this thread for about a month now, and finally felt it was time to share some of my cochins.

this is a project pair of 'Self Blues' that I plan on pairing with some gorgeous blacks I got from Tom, earlier this spring.

I am guessing you could have bought a good pair or more with shipping for what you have in eggs. That wouldn't give the variety that you bought but would allow you to breed, hatch, and raise your own which I find quite fulfilling. Shipping eggs have so many factors going against them. Heat (the trailers and trucks get very hot on a sunny day when it is only 75 outside), cold(if coming long distance they may be in an airplane and be quite cold even when it is hot out), rough handleing, and the time from laying till you can incubate them all work against shipped eggs. It is not the shippers fault if all arrive unbroken, it is just how it is and all should understand the risks. If you can get to Columbus or .some other large show in Ohio this year you may find what you are looking for. There are some good breeders in Ohio and surrounding states that will sell birds but do not ship eggs. I wish you best of luck!

Welcome buttercup! Lovely black pair and I love those cages!!! I don't know much about laced birds or lavender but they are very pretty. Addictive little birds aren't they??

I purchased 2 pair of black bantam's last week from a gentleman in Texas. I didn't ask permission to use his name, so I won't. I'm really happy with them and wanted to show them off. He said they are about 6 to 7 months old. They didn't want to cooperated. These are the best two pictures out of a hundred. LOL
