Cochin Thread!!!

Gosh they really are not at their best at this teenage age are they? Is this one definately a Roo, such a small crest but I am new to cochins
I'm not 100% but it sure does act like one. the picture is not the best quality. I have about 6 that have the bright red comb and wattles the rest have a light pink smaller comb and no wattles yet. this is the only way I can distinguish them. there are a few that are definitely roos! (and would make excellent breeders

In my batch of 9, I have one definate & 2 probable at 4 weeks old. Now you have made me worry, I think my 4 week old roos crest is bigger (compared to head) than yours is.What d you do with xs roos? I wish I could be more practical about mine.

I am trying to sell off some of the roos. this is my first hatch of bantam cochins so don't go by me because it is just a guess. I have someone interested in my xs roos but I am not sure what they want them for. It is tough because I am trying not to get attached to them yet they are all so friendly. I am definitely keeping the ones that are show quality. Which is why I asked about this guy/girl? Maybe I should hold off until I know which ones are definitely roos?

One of the chicks that hatched for me today is bare on one entire backside. I'll get some pics as soon as he dries off - he seems fine other than one bare naked side. Has anyone experienced this? I'm hoping the feathers will grow in. Pictures late tonight or tomorrow morning.
Pictures: In this hatch of my BLR (F2 generation), there are 2 GL and 1 BLR. They are still a bit damp, but you can see my little "Bareback":

(And to answer the question of what variety my males are, they are Golden Laced.)

A gold-based Birchen is a Brown Red.
Thank you so much Coopa Cabana. I have a little rooster who is a Brown Red and I want to get more, but I had no idea what his variety was called. I wasn't going to raise any bantams, but this little guy slipped in and won my heart. I checked the breeder list here on BYC, but the close by breeders do not have them right now. Do you know of any hatcheries that might have them? As I said before, I am just looking for pet quality.

LOL - Everyone got their legbands this morning, and while they were busy admiring each others new ankle bracelets, they all decided that something was very interesting about the thermometer. I just had to get a couple of pics.

Not show material. Not sure about the color. Not enough cushion is my reason for critiquing it not show quality.
thanks you. I am just starting out with cochins and hatched eggs from a few different breeders this spring. I have a few that are looking really nice, cushion and color, I am just trying to determine who to keep in the breeding coop. I am thinking this one is a male, would you have any input on that as well?
