Cochin Thread!!!

Very nice pics and lovely birds! What was the advice from Gail? I could use some help in this department too, I am the worst chicken photographer ever!

Quote: Craig's pictures are always good, but like most of us, many are taken from a distance. All I mentioned to Craig was cropping the pictures a bit, to take off some of the excess sides which will then enlarge the subject bird. And I also usually try to crop to a square when possible - it seems to show off the roundness and proportions of a Cochin the best.

OMG! Weird, I just found my "Jack" dead this morning! Is that a coincidence or what?  :(   So sad.

Guess were in the same boat, so sorry you lost your beautiful Jack~ I hope you have lots of babies from him. I still can't figure out what went wrong with my Jack, with Cochins you just never know sometimes. I'm wondering a little if the west Nile virus had something to do with jacks death. I had a horse years ago that got the virus, he had trouble walking and seemed almost " drunk". That's about how jack was acting last week before he wasn't able to walk anymore. Just so sad and I felt so helpless. :(

I have a Delaware that's been off for a couple of weeks. I thought she had wry neck at first because of the way she was holding her neck. But, when she stood still, it was in a normal position. Same thing, walking like she's drunk, her equilibrium is off and always almost falling over. She's getting better now and never totally lost the ability to walk, but for a while I thought I was going to have to euthanize her... No idea what it was and I didn't know how to treat her. I gave her vitamins and electrolytes and sat back and waited. I have 10 other birds in with her and they are all healthy.

Hopefully everyone's birds are safe and we won't be seeing any other losses in the near future. Both Jacks were gorgeous!
