Just because I'll get fatser replies...

How long does it take for a wound to heal? My broody hen Oleo got attacked by my serema roo (
roll.png
bugger thinks hes king of the world, and has to attack ANYTHING other then HIS hen in HIS area, ) and lost a handful of feathers on the back of her head, the wound looks OK... minus the feathers..

Also, shes buff, and her skin is yellow

No wonder Oleo was a perfect name.

oh and a random note... Funky Feathers > do you ever have pairs for sale in the winter / spring?

I may have some Splash pairs to sell this winter. I won't have any in the spring, I turn off my incubators in October.

I believe in the USA in the SOP it is called self blue. I think lavender is the same color but for cochins in the SOP it is self blue. Is your SOP the same as ours? Just one of those idiosincreties~some breeds the variety is lavender, others is self blue.
I love your LF partridge. That hen really looks gigantic with those tiny birds by her. I love the roos eyes too with the nice brow.
MommaforSix~I think your bantam partridge cochins are very pretty too. I love that color.
Ashdoes~far as I know the partridge is the color that has the red head isnt it?

I want to state that in the latest copy of Bantam Standard I do not know of or have found a breed that has Lavender as a description. If you know of one please let me know and I will look it up. Silkies were not admitted as "lavender" but as self blue. OEG and Modern Game are also self blues. Some breeders like to use the word lavender to get interest in their birds or to market their eggs. Call it what you want it is still self blue in the USA. I have to say I would never buy from someone peddling self blue as lavender.

Self Blue is entire suface an even shade of light slatey blue with a similar undercolor. Disqualifications for red yellow orange or white in plumage. Defects would include laced feathers, dark blue feathers or varying shade of blue. This a short version of what self blue coloring is described as in the Standard for all breeds.

Ok I understand. Thank You for clearing that up BlackCochinBantams. I was under the mis~understanding that some were called "lavender" . I do not know if it is the same standards in Canada or not. Because the person that asked lives in Canada.

Post 623 in the Large Fowl Cochin thread has pictures I have posted of six 5 month old cockerels I have in my flock. Most are self-blue. I would appreciate comments from some of the knowledgeable breeders about which ones I should keep for breeding. Criticism is most welcome since I am learning.

I've never heard of self blue here - so Tiki244 - you are right on that. Lavender is not a popular colour here either. Maybe that is why I say that. I have seen Lavender silkies in show and it was clearly written "LAVENDER" and not "Self Blue"

Also everyone I know on the Ameraucana thread says Lavender and not self blue either. This is the only thread I've seen them call it self blue ;)
