WOw, I didn't even know feathers in the hair was a trend; just last week my son picked up a sickle feather from our SSH and I showed him how a hat could be decorated, or since he didn't have a hat on, put it in his hair. He said no.
I don't have show birds, and my boys don't seem to need their sickle feathers, maybe here is a way to help pay for feed!
Sorry to hear about your show birds--greed is ever present.
now you guys got me thinking... since i live in los angeles, nothing but wannabe trendy folk over here...
i also found this video... seems like cutting hackle feathers will be pretty FTL... i'm gonna see if there is a local interest in these say, craigslist, and go to micheals and start brushing my roo's since they're going thru a molt... although they are bantams, the colors would be pretty cool IMO... we'll see...
seems super simple... tiny bead, wire and they clamp it on themselves... shoot, i'll even do it for them... HAHAHAHAHA...
btw... if my roo got mutilated like that, i would've gone RAWR!!! on them... they would have to hold me back from plucking the hair of that girl... i don't care if i'm a man and she's a clueless broad... she'll know not to mess with chicken folk... i'll totally SSS her... HAHAHAHHA... j/k...
Holy Cow! I had no idea they were THAT expensive! I think I need to go search the yard for decent looking molted feathers! Too bad I didn't save any from when my sebastapol was molting!
My Marans roos' feathers are by FAR prettier than what the ad has pictured! Gees, with the rise in chicken food lately, that may well be a way to compensate. In the last 6 months, chick starter has jumped up $7.00/50# bag!
We have street fares where people can sell their wares at the end of every month in Portlandia. I might just have to go have a talk with some of those many boys if they want to keep being fed!
I saw a 6 year old with feathers in her hair at the local WalMart the other day. A local salon is advertising them out front. Years ago someone was cutting tails off some of the horses at the stable I was boarding at. Nothing like going to get your horse from the field and finding what used to be a long tail cut to a barely usable fly switch. Grr
At least fur coats aren't coming back into fashion.. they're kinda terminal.
I looked at the vid and those feathers look really thin to me. She seems to say they're real, but they don't look much thicker than the shaft of a feather.
