Morning folks,

Nice weather today. Hope to get SIL to dig the remaining holes for my berry plants and lilacs that I bought. I dug the holes for the gooseberries and need about 20 more done. Not big holes and I do use the post hole digger.

Anyone planting new things this year? How many have work to do to prepare for winter? What's the hardest thing to do? I'd like to finish the tin roof on the one run I have but need more money. It will help keep it dry. I use tarps but they are so bad they don't last a year and are expensive. The sun just breaks them down so fast it's unbelievable.

Anyone here suffer damage by Irene?

Take care folks and have a great day,

Rancher

ps pics are always nice.

Thank you for all the kind comments on my PrettyBoy. You're right Rancher, we don't see alot of pictures on this thread - I hope I didn't break an unwritten rule by posting so many. My husband and I are thinking if we shouldl enter him in the National show this October in Indy. It's the national meet for my breed too so I wonder how he will place. I've got a pretty girl who's almost perfect to go with him but she's in ba feather now and I don't know if it will grow back before October. If you are going to run with the big dogs you'd better bring your A game or stay home is what I've always thought. I will be going to nationals either way, with or without my birds. They have camping there at the fairgrounds for 25.00 a night and I can afford to stay there and sleep in my SUV. The cheepest hotels are 80.00 a night

! Just For A Bed? With possible bed bugs?

I don't think so.

. Thanks anyway - I will stay nice and comfy in my own space wrapped in my own clean linens for 25.00 per night and make some friends too.

Rancher:
There should be lots of refuse you can pick up for free just by looking for it after Irene. Whenere we have a "great storm" ( some people are such wusses around these parts) I go around for many days and into the next 2 weeks finding stuff which is perfectly usable for chicken cooping. I'll bet some tin rofing flew off of somewhere and is not good enough for the previous owner who has too much money and will just buy new stuff ("too much money" -never my problem

) and they are tossing out the old. You should be looking around there for "new" stuff for the coops. Bet you'd find alot if you looked.

Good morning chicken wranglers
Paradise I'm only 120 miles south of you and it is hot here also!Good luck on the nationals!
Rancher I've got to til yp one pastur and plant pasture grass if that counts! I may plant rape to lure in some deer also.
Math, thanks for the good weekend wishes but I've got family comin in and ya'll know God Lets you pick your friends cause the devil gets to pick your family!
That is an old adage that too often proves true.
God Bless all ya'llsweekends!

Whew, it's been a busy morning here at this wild and crazy school! My head is still spinning and I'm taking a little 'gather my thoughts' break to make sure I didn't forget to do something. At least there haven't been any fights so far today - I'm knocking on my wooden desk...... and the day does go by at warp speed around here.

Tomorow is a big chicken swap in Ocala - can't wait. I'll be sad to take my favorite Jersey Giant roo, though. He will be missed.

Love the pics, Paradise. Good luck if you do go to nationals.

Rancher, I've got my seeds going and I'll be putting them in the ground this weekend. I think I'll put up the sun-shade that I took off the old coop and see if they do better with less sun. I've got tomatos, pop corn, brocolli, leeks, chinesse lanterns, lima beans, and carrots started. Unfortunately one of the trays fell off the board I had it sitting on and now I'm not sure what is what in there, but I should be able to tell soon. I've also got a friend bringing some exotic spinach and other stuff to the swap that I'll be buying some seedlings from, too.

Boy have my girls slowed down on their laying since I moved them to the aviary! I hope they pick up again soon - I've already got one customer that had to buy store eggs.

And I usually take a few cartons to swaps for the folks that are just getting started with chickens. Not this time, I guess.

The devil gets to pick your family - too funny, Karl. Around this place the devil must have been feeling particularly malicious when he picked some of these poor kids parents and families!

Back to work for me! Have a good afternoon, everyone.

Good morning people,
I hope this finds everyone doing well and such.
I have a question for everyone. We went to a county fair last night and was talking to a gentleman about his chickens. I asked him what he did to remove the spurs on his rooster. He said that he made a oil base paste/solution and put it around the base of the spur for a couple of days. He said it soften the spur and made it easier to twist off. Does anyone know of the solution and it's composition? The time is getting close to remove mr. rhu's spurs.

Rancher Hicks: "Anyone planting new things this year?" - I am hoping to get a strawberry bed made before the ground freezes. I can get my hands on about 20+ strawberry plants. I would also like to start making raised beds in the veggie garden.

"Anyone here suffer damage by Irene? " - We lost power for a few days, basement flooded. We were lucky. Some bridges and roads have been washed out. The worst I think have been in Prattsville, Margaretville and Windham NY. Check'em out on the web.

Karl: "God Lets you pick your friends cause the devil gets to pick your family!" - Good saying.

ParadiseFoundFarm: nice looking birds and congratulations. Good luck and enjoy yourself at the nationals.

Chicks: Sounds like you are having fun......

MathAce: Helloooooooooooooooooo

One more day till we head off to the woods.

Be safe and rock the holiday.
