Colourful and Unusual Chicken Eggs!

Can I cheat and post quail eggs? This is the range I get from white (which is not normal) to dark (also not normal), from tiny, to large.

I can't wait till mine start laying! I've never had chickens before and had never even seen an egg color other than white or light brown.
I have 3 EEs, 1 SLW, and 2 welsummers.

They're 15 weeks old
That's the makings of a very pretty egg basket!

I'll add mine....I've been breeding for about 3 years to improve egg color. I am using Barnevelder rooster over Splash Marans, Isbar-Marans (olive egger), and Cream Legbar to produce olive eggers. I then bred over my Gold Sexlink (who laid a pretty terra cotta color), and have reproduced, in the 2nd generation, Barnevelder looking ladies who I think lay a peach...testing still on that.

My 1st gen breeder eggs...Olive Egger (Isbar-Marans), Cal Grey white, Marans, Marans-Barnevelder, Cream Legbar

What an amazing collection!! I’d love to cross my green-olive egger hen with marans to get a darker olive.

Do you know what lays the pink egg in the last picture?

All your colours together are great for Easter!

Quail eggs are so cute, love the speckles. Do you eat them just like chicken eggs?
I’ve considered keeping quail before. What breed/s do you keep?

That’s going to be exciting! First eggs always are, especially when they’re colourful!

I’ve got a Croad Langshan roo. Anyone have the hens? I’d be interested to see what their eggs look like.

I read on a website that lay a light brown egg, but I’m still curious whether anyone has actually gotten a pink egg from them, since searching them up on the internet also shows pictures of pink coloured eggs, however, I did read that this was not true.

If I were to cross it with my araucana hen, I’m guessing I’d get a mint green colour.

You do eat them the same. Just takes a lot more to make an omelette. I have coturnix, which are pretty much the standard breed for most. They are full size and start laying at 8 weeks.....so very fast turnaround if you want them for eggs or meat. And they lay just as much as chickens. None of that "they are still wild and so only lay like 30 eggs a year during a one month window" crap. Some people keep bobwhites or snowflakes or button quail, but those are much less productive and much more territorial/wild/kill each other in larger groups type of breeds.

I have some nice eggs too, I have Silver laced Barenvelders, Araucanas, Pendensencas, and BPR, but their eggs aren't so different from the variety that has been shown.
I wanted to post this pic. Of the most beautiful eggs from a domesticated fowl that can be found, the Tinamou!
