Does anyone have ideas for stopping a young (Bresse) rooster from pulling the combs of two of my (Jaerhuns) hens while mating? He’s not being mean I don’t think. He doesn’t peck them otherwise, seems like they are his favourites, and they really seem to love him. He’s also not wrecked any of their back feathers so he’s being careful with his feet. But he’s ripped up the backs of both their combs mating and there’s been some blood. I separated him out for now and treated them. My other hens all have small combs and are fine.
He’s a nice guy so if there’s something I can do before we have to eat him, (can’t keep him separate forever in a climate coming up on way way below zero winter) that would be awesome. Thanks so much!
