Here is a picture of them all together taken today.

Cute! This is my guess:

I thought those came in when they were older?

Ah okay that makes sense. Guess I’ll have to wait till then unless they make themselves obvious males before then :lau

I hope so but not looking good on some of them :/

Yeah, I meant the Orpingtons specifically. It’s probably wrong but I read that the Lavender Orpingtons be mean or that it’s more common than in the other Orpington colors for some reason???

I know Orpingtons are usually supposed to be gentle but I heard this coloration sometimes are mean???

That’s probably not true though??

I don’t know how I’m going to decide which one to keep. :lau

That’s what I’m thinking too but hoping not. :( :fl

Thanks! I really hope I get more than that but I am leaning that way too. :(

But I guess in a way it could be good because if it’s only a few girls or less I could move them into the new coop with my current chickens and use the old one to get more :lau

I’ll definitely post more pictures and I’ll try to get good ones of their face and bodies. I think the natural light will help. It’s gonna be a long wait. :lau :barnie
The Orpingtons of any color are supposed to be gentle giants. I haven't yet had a mean Orpington Cockerel.

They look like austrolorps,.to me

I

they look like hens to me

Sorry I was thinking about something else!! They are so cute!! They look like my hen who last away, her name was hawk!!

It’s okay!! Haha but yes, the outdoor ones are hens. And thank you!! Sorry about your hen. :hugs

These chicks are from an assortment of eggs from a hatchery so all different breeds but there is a Black Australorp in there. Can’t tell it apart from the Andalusian though :lau

Thank you!! And excellent labeling!!

That is disappointing but I suspect the same. :(

Okay thank you!! That’s good to know!! Maybe it was just a fluke then? Or maybe just hatchery birds? I thought maybe it was something in the line/genetics/breeding of that color but maybe someone just got a few bad ones and spread that haha

I am thinking of keeping one of them but idk if I’ll keep the Orpington or a different one.

Nice labeling, @casportpony ! I agree, and look forward to their next photoshoot.

X2 on the labeling and I really hope you guys are wrong on it :lau I doubt it though. :(

We’ll see at their next photo shoot in a few weeks. :D

I suppose in some of the specialty/project colors it could be related to how the color is brought in and if you introduce some other attitudes to the gene pool?

I think, though, that even most hatchery Orpington males are pretty amicable. I’ve had a couple of breeder English Orpington males until 16 weeks so I don’t have any experience with them.

My orps were hatchery stock.

Thanks!! This is good to know!! Glad it doesn’t seem to be true ha

Though I may keep a different one anyway. But I love the Lavender color. :love

All my current birds are hatchery stock and I love them all but I’ve never had a rooster before

Roosters are actually pretty fun to have, especially when you end up with one that is a big baby, & follows you around, & allows you to pick him up.
