I am glad many of you voted even you may have never voted or this is your first time voting! Hats off to you to contribute your voting rights! This is the first time in history that we have a black man running for president and wouldnt it be great that all of us were PART of this historical moment in our country?????? One of these days I will tell my daughter all about it and what it took a giant step to mankind to make this possible!

right there is the problem. who cares about making history. I believe that is the big reason he won was not because of what his history is, but because it would be cool to vote for him, to heck with what he stands for and looking at his voting record as a senator and his believes.

I do not care for or about "politics". I find it entirely divisive...

I have struggled for the last few weeks reading all the threads, attacks, arguments and unhappiness. I chose not to post my ideas because I didn't want to get into the middle of that mess, but I feel I have some responsibility to get this idea out there. Of course I am not the sole believer in this idea - there are at least 6 million of us working daily to get it across.

Nobody truly believes that it matters who gets to be president as far as what is happening to our world society, do they?

When the majority of individuals begin to realize that we are spiritual beings, and begin living their lives according to that idea, THEN we can expect to see something other than history repeating itself over and over.

We will suffer until our collective consciousness realizes that disunity is the true and base cause for the majority of our world problems. (I know this is a major simplification, but I don't want to write 20 pages).

I do not want to argue or be attacked for my ideas just because they are different from yours, nor do I need a lesson on "he or she is what's really wrong with our country".

It doesn't matter WHO is president - nothing will change until we all change as individuals.

jmho, for what it's worth. I'd rather you PM me if you wish to discuss this in depth, rather than do it publicly.

I believe that this will be the worst 4 years with Obama. I cant believe that anybody actually voted for him. I hope they have fun paying high taxes, 40% capital gains tax, and 28% tax on all home sales. roll And he already has it in the works to help people pay off home loans. Why should we help people pay off home loans, when they were the ones that had to buy huge houses, got adjustable loans, etc? Its not right. You made that mistake, now you have to fix it.

i agree one hundred percent. if i was old enough to vote i would have voted McCain as well.

Have you not picked up a newspaper in the past eight years? We have an enormous deficit in this country - trillions of dollars - how on earth do you think that will be paid for? No matter who became president, taxes will invariably have to go up.

Some of us voted for Obama because of what he stands for and would never consider voting for McCain - especially after his choice of running mate. She didn't know Africa was a continent. Could not name the three countries in NAFTA. Reading todays news, looks like he had second thoughts too.

Obama is not my ideal candidate - I would prefer someone more prochoice and with higher environmental standards - but he's the best we've seen in decades. The color of his skin has nothing to do with it. He won fair, square and enthusiastically.

Who cares. I dare say most the people in the United states don't know that.
And what does Obama stand for? Ohh thats right change:p

I've always thought that anyone who wants to be President has *got* to be a bit of a masochist!

It's very possible that the next 4 years will be awful. Obama has inherited a first class M-E-S-S: 2 long-term wars, an aggressive Russia, a beligerant Iran, untold national debt, economic recession, failing social programs. If he doesn't sweep in and fix every one of the country's ailments, he's going to get blamed for a lot of them.

It's an interesting period of history we're in today, to say the least.

Agreed. This is not about opinions but rather the coming together as a nation to get out and vote. Back to topic please.

Agreed, this is to celebrate a historic event and record voter turnout.

Please refrain from posting unless it's on topic or something positive and/or slightly off topic.

Who was elected does not matter, it's the fact that we are lucky enough to live in a society that allows us to vote and be heard as a people no matter which country you belong to.

I think this past election from my observations has really helped the US in the eyes of many people from many other countries and that is something to be profoundly proud of. I sometimes wish we had either of your two candidates up here as they both showed strong leadership and convictions in their beliefs, even if they were different from each other.

Honestly, I can't think of an event in my lifetime that has been this historic....can anyone else? I'm looking forward to telling people in the future...hey, I was actually lucky enough to watch in real time as it happened. Now is that cool or what?

This will be an interesting and difficult time in history, but as Chicabee19 mentioned, the change has to come from within ourselves. We have alot of national issues right now, but we also have alot of local ones. If everybody found a way to work on some of the local issues, things would improve for all of the people in America..one neighborhood at a time.

If we sit back and expect the government to fix everything...it just ain't gonna happen! I don't believe that the movement that has been credited to the Obama campaign should end because he will be in office. Now is the time for all of us to roll up our sleeves and get to work on fixing things in our own little corners of the world.

These fixes can be any number of things like starting a scouting troop or a club so that kids have activities and get to learn things. It could be organizing a food drive to help the needy. It could involve starting a neighborhood watch group so that people are safer in their neighborhoods, or starting a tutoring program to help kids learn to read. If more people taught their neighbors how to compost or encouraged them to live more sustainably, then the planet might get a bit healthier. Lobby to change the laws so more people can have chickens. It just might help a family to be able to feed themselves rather than have to get assistance. Teaching people to plant a garden can have the same effect.

I've read the comments posted by other BYCer's in other parts of the message board and collectively we have alot of skill and expertise to share. There is a lot that we can do and we all have so much to bring to the table. So...let's bring it to the table and do some good!
