Just went outside. It is 7:00 am and about 76 degrees. The chickens are all happily pecking away in the yard. It would be so nice if it could just stay that temp all day. I thought about just sitting out there to drink my coffee. What a nice way to start a morning.

That's what I do every morning. Its very pleasant until the sun comes over my fence and starts shining on me. The chooks mill around and sometimes jump up in my lap. Love it!

i love to sit outside on my special large log and feed them treats and let them tell me about their day.

the last few days though - we have one of the babies who likes to jump on my shoulder and chatter - makes you wish you understood all that she is telling ya

time to go out and make sure they have lots of water - and to water the ground so they will have some puddles to keep em cool today - soooo worried about them in this heat - luckily i do have shade and a large yard for them to spread out

I went out w/ my coffee today to hang out with the group. I've got a chest freezer full of frozen gallon waterers for later and I made a bunch of frozen berry/corn treats for them. I fill a batter bowl with water and corn and frozen berries for them to pick away at, then turn it out on the ground once it's frozen solid.

I'm watering now, so it should be a little cooler later, but the birds out at the farm will have to settle for me misting them a bit when it's really hot. I also fill 3 gal bowls with ice and let them wade in them as it melts in the shade.

Miserable. I hope this doesn't last much longer- though I like it a lot better than 20 below!!

The grapevines over one of the runs are a big hit, as the fruit is all ripening now and the leaves give fabulous shade. I'm really going to have to do a lot more of those!

@Ozawkie

Didn't you hear about the algae closing the beaches up there? You know what causes algae bloom don't you? pooooooooooop!!!!!!!!!!

I keep thinking I need one of those tree spades. I could go out along the fence line that needs to be removed anyway, and load up some trees and move them to the yard for the birds. I was thinking if I could afford that; I could afford a bulldozer and I'd build a new pond close to the pens so the ducks and chickens could all cool themselves.
My water bill is going to be like the national debt this month. I have everything I can find sitting around with water in it. Many of the chickens sit in the pans or whatever and just cool their feet.
Good idea about the grape vines.
