I'm at 21 weeks and I'm waiting with baited breath. I understand! Any day now. It's just like human development, on their own terms.

Question to anyone who knows. Has anyone tried Hermans Meat Market in Topeka? (I think that's what it's named) I work in Topeka and it would be much easier to go there than to my beloved Steve's Meat Market in De Soto.

In other news, the girls are still mad that I've moved their food into the coop. They don't like it in there quite yet so they'll just have to deal with it.

Never been there but a coworker says they have good stuff. I don't know why I have never been there, I have been driving by the Fairlawn place long before it was Hermans.

Edit- I work in Topeka also.

Practically dead to the world right now. I have strep throat, and I slept the entire day yesterday. The antibiotics I think are just now kicking in, I was able to stay awake most of today. But wow, I don't remember EVER feeling this bad or hurting this much. Sigh. Guess how I got it??? You know how you all are talking about staph infections? Seriously, even if you wash your hands... wash them AGAIN!!! My son has a staph infection on the top of his head-- don't as me how, I have no idea. He's on antibiotics and we've been working at it for 2 weeks, it's just a very tough infection to overcome. Well, despite myself being very diligent about cleaning and washing my hands after working with him and using the medicated shampoos, etc.. I still managed to give myself strep throat (staph). Greeeeeeat. The Dr laughed at me when I came back in because we'd already been to see him twice that week and he said that staph is so difficult to wash off, that it was only a matter of time before we caught. So there's your staph lesson for the day. Wash, wash, and then do it again.

Danz, sorry about your up coming surgery. I think it sounds super scary, and I'm really sorry that you have to do it. I will pray very hard for you and continue to keep you in my prayers.

Okay... I just have to go lay back down again. Still feel like ..... Yeah.

Hoo boy! Aren't we the bunch today.

Danz- I sure hope your surgery goes well and that you recover quickly. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I wish I was closer. I'd take care of your birds for you.

Hawkeye-Yuck! Strep throat... no fun. Try a little tea with honey. It won't cure it, but it sure makes it a lot more bearable. I can't believe how well it works.

I just about did myself in today. I was out in front of the coop, and I tripped over a piece of cement that has heaved up about an inch. I tripped with my right foot and came down HARD on my left foot, the one I have a bad case of plantar fasceitis in. It hurt so bad I couldn't breath for a bit. I couldn't walk or move. I wanted to sit down, but the ground (on the north side of the coop) still had ice and snow there, so I just stood there trying to catch my breath. Now I can barely walk, even with a cane. I've been laying down in bed after taking advil and tylenol with a bag of frozen mixed vegetable strapped to my heel with an ace wrap.

Hope everyone else is doing well and pullets start laying soon. No more earthquakes or tornados. Believe it or not, we still have snow on the ground in a few places!

Wow, a bunch for sure! IVY, I hope you get better soon, keep it iced & elevated & take Ibuprofen if you can. Hawkeye, I hope you feel better soon also, I agree with IVY, the hot tea with honey sure makes your throat feel better. We all have strep & staph bacteria on & in our bodies as part of our "normal flora" but it's when these bacteria get out of hand that we have problems. I have read & been told that once you get strep throat you are a carrier & it can come back. At any rate hope you feel better soon & your son's staph infection goes away also. I've been kind of paranoid since I've been dealing with this hen with bumblefoot. I don't have the best immune system anyway, so I have to be careful.

Oh IVY, BTW, Yeah for Valley Vet, the denagard got here today after ordering yesterday! I had to go to Wichita to get my 3rd & last injection in my knee for the arthritis for this round & when I came back the box was sitting on my bench on the front porch, so I got it mixed up & started them on it this afternoon. I sure hope it works fast for them, the poor little Lakenvelder pullets are now hacking & sneezing. The BC Marans rooster is better, he didn't seem to get it as bad as the hen did. I have to tell this on myself, last night when my hubby came home at midnight I let the dogs out & thought what I heard was a hen out in the trees outside. She was making noise due to the cold she has & at the same time I heard an owl hooting right out there in that direction too. I went in the house & asked my husband to go with me & see if we could find the hen so we could take her in. He was aggravated at me for making him go out in the cold & dark to look for a chicken of all things. We got out there with flashlights & he was trying to get past the darned thorny hedge trees that have grown up by the garage & couldn't find any hen. As we were standing there a chicken sneezed in the coop & we figured out she was right by the vent & the sound was projecting outside so it sounded like she was out there but wasn't. He was so disgusted at me for leading him on a goose chase! I told him I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a hen out there because the owl would have eaten her, especially if she was sick. What we will do for our chickens huh.

I need to go ice my knee, it always smarts for a few hours after getting those injections, but at least so far it has helped me with the pain. I guess you have to endure some pain to get rid of some at times.

Wow! I wondered where you were Loralee. Is the whole C Kansas group falling apart?? I hope you all get to feeling better. Ivy you be careful out there. Didn't we talk about how we were always tripping and falling down?
Loralee if it makes you feel any better, I got a call from the doctors office today. His RN told me because they have to go in there and remove all the old metal that there will be lots of swelling inside my throat and it might keep me from being able to swallow. She said I will have to be on a very soft diet for at least a couple weeks. Soup, cottage cheese, taters and gravy, oatmeal, things that have no rough edges or hard spots. She said I probably won't be able to eat beef or chicken, or fresh fruits and veggies. No breads because they tend to ball up. Maybe I'll finally loose some weight! Not exactly a diet of my choice for sure. Although I do love soup. I am also expected to loose my voice and it could permanently damage my vocal cords because they have to be stretched out of the way. So I am with you on sore throats. Here I was looking forward to the hospital food. Stormont Vail has the best food and you just order it like you would in a restaurant when you want it. I figured they would have a great TG day dinner. Guess I'll be stuck with turkey broth or something. Yuk!
I had strep several times when I was younger and it was miserable. I couldn't even eat ice cream because the sweetness in it burnt my throat. I really feel for you.
Trish do you get steroid injections for your arthritis? Or is it some rheumatoid injection. I've had numerous steroid injections but the last ones didn't help. I used to get them all the time in my wrist before they fused it. It was the only way I could stand the pain.

Lordy, it sounds like everyone is falling apart, and it's early in the season yet!!

I'm nearly over my thing, and finally have some benefit from some meds for the Lyme- my elbows don't hurt for the first time in months!! I'm only coughing a little, too, so perhaps the cold will let go of me...7weeks later.

I wish everyone the best of healing, the most vigorous of health, the happiest of weekends, and the most success in your endeavors!!

I'm hatching Silkies like mad, and have 8 out. Joy!!

Danz, I have been getting the Synvisc injectiions for my knees, it gives you lubrication in there again for about 6 months. When the arthritis eats away the cartilage in the knee then the bones rub & cause pain. Mine were creaking & grinding so bad & hurting terribly. I had the series of 3 in my left knee in August & just finished the 3rd in my right one today. Sometimes they do a series of 5, it just depends. Since I live out of town they just went with the 3 for me & it has seemed to help me quite a lot so far. I can still feel the arthritis, but don't have the grinding & rubbing I had. The bad part is it will wear off after about 6 months & have to be done again. They do it as a measure to help you until you have to have the joint replaced finally. I will be probably looking at that in both knees eventually, ugh, I don't look forward to that at all. I have arthritis all over my body, it's hereditary. Gosh, I'm sorry you have to go through all of that with this surgery & over a holiday too. I will keep you in my prayers also.

IVY, you're not the only one that falls a lot, I'm one of those too. I think it has a lot to do with the arthritis & being so stiff & off balance. I never used to fall like I do now. I have hurt myself several times falling. I had to have knee surgery in June this year to fix a torn meniscus from falling. I don't even attempt to walk up my hilly driveway when it's icy or there is snow unless I have a walking stick in one hand & my hubby holding my arm on the other. We all need to pray that we don't have too much snow this year. Ugh, I hate that stuff & the ice even more!
